Guanajuato, Gto., June 13, 2019.- At the University of Guanajuato (UG) the inauguration of the Summers of Science was held, a program that for 25 years has encouraged scientific vocations and interest in research in different areas of knowledge, and in which the most 800 students from Mexico and abroad.

At the ceremony, UG President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino argued that this is one of the most emblematic projects of the modern era of the Institution, highlighting the importance of one of the most human relations transcendent: the one that is established between teacher and student.

He noted that the great problems of science do not recognize multidisciplinary barriers or borders, and therefore welcomed this program to explore new possibilities and encourage multidisciplinary work.

Dr. Guerrero Agripino congratulated those who participate in the program and welcomed students from sister institutions. He also highlighted the work carried out by the team of the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Support (DAIP) to organize the program.

For his part, the Director of DAIP, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendivil, emphasized that the promotion of scientific vocations begins in the early stages of training, and detailed that the concept of the Summers of Science in 2019 is that it is a comprehensive training program including the three substantive functions of the institution, i.e. teaching, research and extension.

Thus, at the end of this edition will be equipped with more than 230 products for the dissemination and communication of science, as well as for education at all levels and in all modalities.

During the seven-week stay, the student participates in a scientific problem that addresses comprehensively, contributes to the solution from its formation and to the generation of the associated products of communication of science, added the Director of DAIP.

On behalf of the participating students, Emilia Arévalo Arredondo gave a message, a high school student, who shared her experience in scientific outreach projects and invited students to get involved in the different training experiences offered by the University of Guanajuato, as well as thanking the advisors who guide them in these projects.

Dr. Gustavo Niz Quevedo, academic of the Department of Physics of the Campus León pointed out that the UG Summers are something out of the ordinary, that they have different challenges: to get out of the circle of comfort, to know other ways of thinking and acting, to be purposeful, daring to raise doubts and assume a leadership position, so he urged them to enjoy this experience.

At the opening ceremony, students and advisors participating in the program, university authorities and those involved in the Summer of Science organization were present.
