Celaya, Gto., June 13, 2019.-San Nicolás de Manantiales is a small community in the municipality of Cortazar of just 654 inhabitants, attended by students of the Celaya-Salvatierra Campus to make a social and health diagnosis, with the support of Health Jurisdiction III of the Ministry of Health.

At a ceremony held at the Celaya-Salvatierra Campus, students delivered the results of the diagnosis to the community authorities, who thanked the University for their support and offered to work together to implement the necessary actions to reverse the health risk conditions of the locals.

The presentation of results was attended by C. Antonio de Jesús Reyes, Delegate of the Community, Rosalina Rojas representative of the Committee of the Health Unit and Dr. Cristina Chimal Mendoza, of Jurisdiction III of the Ministry of Health, who received an extensive document containing all the information gathered during the period of this project, as well as a sketch recording the 27 blocks that make up the community of San Nicolás de Manantiales, with demographic data such as: number of families that each block, number of children under the age of 5, number of women of reproductive age, etc.

The study revealed risks from deficiencies in health infrastructure, as in some homes defecation is still carried out at ground level; deficiencies in access to basic services such as cold water and all health risks of poor personal hygiene persist; nutritional care is another area that deserves to be taken care of, when there is a lack of proper habits within families and a poor food balance.

The above panorama places the community of San Nicolás de Manantiales in latent risks for the development of diseases. The local authorities and health personnel considered the information that the diagnosis produced to be valuable, as it will allow to focus the actions on those areas that are priority to stop the development and onset of diseases that impede the development of the locals, especially in vulnerable groups such as children, older adults and pregnant women.

This situational diagnostic project was carried out by students of the bachelor's degree in Nursing and Obstetrics, advised by the professor, Dr. Laura Rico Herrera, through which they not only reinforce the part of academic training in planning aspects, implementation, logistics, teamwork and linkage with institutions, but strengthen the social sense contemplated in the educational model of the University of Guanajuato.

The students asked the authorities of San Nicolás de Manantiales to bear a message of thanks to the inhabitants of that community for the support they showed during the study, as it was decisive for the scope of the results.

They pledged not to stray from them and continue to provide support through professional practices that directly link them to the needs of the regions and involve them in their solution.
