Guanajuato, Gto., June 18, 2019.- Dr. Francisco M. Mora Sifuentes, professor-researcher of the Department of the University of Guanajuato (UG) presented a paper in the International Congress on the Philosophy of Law of Robert Alexy in the Magna Graecia University, Catanzaro, Italy.

The conference titled "Hart and Alexy on the Nature of Law. A Partial Comparison" by Dr. Mora Sifuentes was held in the activities with motive of the Honoris Causa Doctorate by the Magna Graecia University to Prof. Robert Alexy, one of the most eminent philosophers of Law in our time and whose work is in the most influential in its discipline in the last 40 years.

In his conference, Dr. Mora Sifuentes talked about the importance of analyzing the differences and relevant similarities between Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart and Robert Alexy, because, he thinks, are the most influential and articulated proposals on the fundamental problem of the theory and philosophy of Law, meaning, it is about inquiries that seek to answer the question, what is law?

The international seminar was held with the presence of Robert Alexy, who answered all the papers presented in different panels.

Among the expositors were the professors Mauro Barberis, Giovanni Bisogni, Alessio Giudice, Andrea Porciello, Susanna Pozzolo, Giovanni Tuzet, Margaret Martin, Antonio Punzi, Alessio Sardo, Persio Tincani and Francisco Mora-Sifuentes.

The special ceremony with motive of the investiture of the Prof. Robert Alexy as Doctor Honoris Cause by the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro, was presided by the Rector Giovambattista De Sarro; by the Director of the Department of Law, Geremia Romano; as well as Prof. Luigi Ventura. The event was decorated with a beautiful laudation by Prof. Massimo La Torre, "El jurista como verdadero filósofo", and the master conference "Law's Dual Nature" by Prof. Robert Alexy.

In the conference, Dr. Alexy synthetized and summed his doctrine on Law completely, mustering, somehow, the inquiries that began with the publication of his work "La teoría de la argumentación jurídica", continued with his book "La teoría de los derechos fundamentals" and reached its peak with his work "El concepto y la validez del Derecho".

Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro is a state university founded in 1998. It is one of the three public universities in Calabria. Each year, under the coordination of Prof. La Torre, the Department of Law, Economics and Sociology organizes a renowned International Doctoral Seminar in which leading law philosophers from around the world participate. It also publishes Ordines Magazine, an interdisciplinary journal aimed at the study of European institutions.

To attend this event, Dr. Mora Sifuentes received support from the Division of Law, Politics and Government, the Department of Law in the framework of its internationalization objectives, as well as the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Support in the Call for Support for Teachers 2019 of the UG.

It should be noted that the University of Guanajuato and Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro have reached a pre-agreement in order to collaborate on an "Erasmus+KA107" project and are working towards international mobility of their students and teachers.
