Guanajuato, Gto., June 26, 2019.- Authorities of the University of Guanajuato (UG) welcomed 22 women and four men who make up the fourth generation of the Regional Equity Program (PER), which provides access to the Institution and financial support to low-income young people from marginalized areas of the state.

On this occasion, 26 young people will enter degrees as diverse as Physics, Performing Arts, Medical Surgeon, International Trade and Civil Engineering, at the Guanajuato, León, Celaya-Salvatierra and Irapuato-Salamanca campuses.

At the ceremony, UG President Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino argued that on many occasions the birthplace can make a difference in access to educational opportunities, but "geography cannot be destination" and corresponds to the place of birth university to look for alternatives to provide spaces for young people from all corners of the state.

He recalled that this is "a noble, profound and transcendent project", which had represented great teamwork at the institutional level and with State Government. He has also added support from the State Judiciary and the UG Board of Trustees, thanking him for his confidence in the program, which he called "a great social achievement".

In his message, he congratulated the students who were selected on their academic merits, and extended recognition to their families for their support in meeting their goals.

Previously, student Mateo Velázquez Oviedo, who is part of the first generation of the PER, said that the program marked a significant change in his life and has taught him that with will, sacrifice and work the goals can be achieved. He also expressed his satisfaction at feeling that he can set an example for his community, pride for his family and agent of change in society.

On behalf of those who make up the fourth generation of the program, Lizeth Zárate Hernández thanked this opportunity and pledged to take advantage of the development alternatives offered by the University of Guanajuato.

For his part, the Academic Secretary of the UG, Dr. Sergio Antonio Silva Muñoz recalled that the Regional Equity Program is based on the principle of working for a fairer society, that brings options closer to young people from marginalized areas, because all people they have the right to "better education and a better future."

At the event was present the Regional Delegate of Education in Guanajuato, Eng. Nicolás Gutiérrez Ortega, representing the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Dr. Yoloxóchitl Bustamante Díez who emphasized that with inclusion and equity the social gaps, so he celebrated this initiative of a university that has always been distinguished by its humanist vocation.

The two-person authorities from the four college campuses and the College of High Schools, representatives of collegiate bodies of the House of Studies, state government officials, beneficiaries of the program and its family members.
