León, Gto., June 27, 2019.- Eduardo Alfonso Hernández Muñoz student of the bachelor's degree in Medical Surgeon of the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León, had an outstanding participation in the sixteenth edition of the International Congress of Traveler's Medicine in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM); instance that presides over the traveler's practice of preventive medicine.

During his participation he showed two papers, one in poster modality focused on a clinical case of alacranism with emphasis on the distribution of scorpions in the country, the prevention of their sting and their medical importance.

In addition, he did research in a mycology laboratory, directed at a clinical case of a human science immune virus (HIV) patient, who had a histoplasma infection - considered a fungus-; this infection was a fungus; mucocutaneous manifestations, representing only 10 percent of cases.

The previous study was exhibited orally in the International Contest of Resident Doctors and Students, in which Eduardo obtained the third place as well as the opportunity to be a member of the (ISTM); the UG student was the only Mexican participant in this contest which allowed him to present his study at the congress in mention.

In an interview, Eduardo commented that traveler's medicine has a wide range of opportunities in the area of health in this regard commented "We live in a globalized world, travelers have different tourist destinations and not all travel for tourism, (..) there are trips with a military approach or even to receive medical care and every itinerary, every traveler, every tourist destination they have puts them at risk of different diseases that are contagious as non-contagious."

In our country is located the clinic of care for the traveler which belongs to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), is the only certified Mexican clinic, in which Eduardo will have in an academic stay of one month with the researchers of this center to put their knowledge into practice and acquire new skills and skills.

Another outstanding activity of the physician in training is the realization of his professional social service in the area of UG Linking in the Department of Medicine and Nutrition in the program of Public Health and Epidemiology under the coordination of Dr. Elia Lara Lona.
