Guanajuato, Gto., July 18, 2019.- As part of the Integral Accompaniment System in the Student's Degree "Trayectoria ES UG", the regulated pass program was reformulated to have a greater scope. So far -over a period of three years- 768 young people have benefited. Of these, more than half correspond to the cycle that will start next August.

In this way, students from the High School College (CNMS) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) who stand out for their academic merits can be admitted for a bachelor's degree without the need to take an entrance exam. It is about rewarding the efforts of young people, but it is also a recognition of the quality of the CNMS, argues the Head of the Student Life Department of the Educational Development Support Unit, Dr. Juan Carlos Soto Patiño.

A fundamental aspect is that the spaces granted to these outstanding students represent additional tuition, that is, the number of places for those who take admission scan does not decrease.

Dr. Soto Patiño detailed that the institutional commitment is to try to reduce desertion in the first year, which requires coordinated actions between different areas of the University, all focused on accompanying students throughout their degree, since his aspiration to enter and until he graduates from the House of Studies.

Therefore, those who pass the entrance exam will have access to induction exercises that include a course of study habits and academic approval courses, which will allow them to strengthen skills in the disciplines they require. All this, before the school year begins.

A fundamental aspect of "EsUGPath" is the vocational orientation and the figure of the tutor, who accompanies and advises the student in the academic field. But it also has the responsibility to channel her/him to the appropriate instances in case it requires additional support.

At this point, Dr. Juan Carlos Soto recalled that Guanajuato University has the state's strongest scholarship system. However, sometimes personal situations arise that require support for contingencies, outside the time they establish the calls.

In these cases, the student may ask for the support of the Division Director, with approval from the tutor or the coordinator of the educational program. The most interesting thing, the Head of the Student's Degree Department, highlights, is that these supports can be activated at any time and respond to the vision that more functional strategies are required to curb desertion.

In another area, he noted that a key element of the "Trayectoria ES UG" System is software that allows to predict the level of risk that each student has, combining academic variables and socioeconomic data.

With this tool it is possible to detect, for example, students who have a semester without enrolling, and currently work on the design of a contact scheme with them, to facilitate their return or activate emerging supports. In short, it is in the search that the student who wants to return does not have to go through a tortuous process, explains Dr. Soto Patiño.

In a first stage, the Integral Accompaniment System is aimed at reducing the desertion and some elements of reprobation. However, other challenges are already visible, such as the training of skills for work and life, as well as terminal efficiency.

These efforts are intended to strengthen accompaniment to the student community and prevent school dropout, so a system has been implemented that includes talented student retention, better vocational guidance, access to academic courses in line and financial support, among others.

Everything is focused on conceiving the student as the center of institutional efforts, offering greater accompaniment and follow-up of his or her career, but also encouraging greater student engagement, he concludes.
