Guanajuato, Gto., August 1, 2019.- The Summers of Science of the University of Guanajuato (UG) came to an end with the presentation of the projects carried out by more than 700 students from Mexico and abroad with the advice of 231 university professors.

The Summers of Science of the UG aim to promote scientific vocations in the early stages of training, by summers included the three substantive functions of the institution: teaching, research and extension.

In his message, the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino said that this event fulfills an academic duty of the whole university, since "the Summers of Science inspire and encourage vocations scientific, as well as the search and talent of the university community."

He also referred to the use of summers exploiting students' curiosity and promoting discipline to generate projects for the benefit of society and thus contribute to the strengthening of education in our country.

The former Rector of the University of San Carlos Guatemala, Dr. Luis Leal congratulated the University of Guanajuato for its 25th edition of the Summers of Science and gave a recognition to the President of the UG, invited to continue this transcendent activity that strengthens scientific development.

Eliette Saraí Pérez Neal student of Environmental Engineering at the University of San Carlos Guatemala and participant in the Summer science program in the Department of Environmental Sciences in the Division of Life Sciences, Irapuato-Salamanca Campus, in representation of students gave a message in which he spoke of his experience as a participant "it was an enriching event both in the academic and personal spheres, full of satisfactions and challenges, I learned from Mexican culture and in addition to the scientific knowledge I have a great friendship."

In this sense, the Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering in the Engineering Division of the Guanajuato Campus, representing the participating professors, Dr. Alma Hortensia Serafín Muñoz invited the student community to continue working with responsibility and commitment to provide solutions to the real problems we currently face through scientific research.

To finish the Director of Research and Postgraduate Support, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendívil emphasized that it is social responsibility of the University of Guanajuato to conduct research and dissemination and do science as a collective construction that requires creativity, enthusiasm and commitment.

The event was attended by sole-person authorities, managers and representatives of the four Campuses and the High School College.

UG students carry out multidisciplinary research projects

Cecilia Morales García, student of the Escuela de Nivel Superior de Salvatierra, together with a multidisciplinary team, performed an analysis of the Mexican chayote endemic to the region for the elaboration of a facial cream, mentioned that it was an experience enriching as he worked all summer in a laboratory and acquired applicable knowledge.

Paola Durán, a graduate student in Chemical Engineering mentioned that she was working on a quantum physics project in which they analyzed light and its properties to perform an interferometer that allows to measure distances with very high accuracy.
