 -In delivering his fourth work report, the Rector General stressed that the achievements achieved are the result of teamwork and strategic alliances

Guanajuato, Gto., August 14, 2019.- The President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, gave the annual report of labors, the last of his rectory period in the administration 2015-2019, in a ceremony that also served as the framework for the official welcome by the start of the August-December school year.

In his message, Dr. Guerrero Agripino recognized the work of a community of more than 50 thousand people, and thanked for the accompaniment in a state project, which has also had the support of society and government.

Taking stock of the achievements achieved in this period of the year, he highlighted the harmonization and updating of university regulations, the creation of the Auxiliary Solidarity Fund for the payment of the pension supplement, and the implementation of programmes such as University System of Educational Multimodality (SUME).

Over the past four years, total UG enrollment grew 24.7 percent, from 33,892 to 42,000 students. In addition, it has been taken care that growth goes hand in hand with quality, and as a result, a 22% increase in bachelor's programs with recognized quality was achieved.

There was also more than 550% growth in internationally recognized undergraduate programs; 16% more postgraduate degrees in the National Quality Postgraduate Census (PNPC) and graduates of international competition increased by 33 percent.

Currently, the UG ranks second among the state public universities with the highest percentage of professors in the National System of Researchers (SNI) and 715 Full-Time Professors (PTC) at the higher level have the Recognition of Desirable PRODEP Profile.

In line with the humanistic spirit and social commitment of the Institution, the President of the UG announced that the Regional Equity Programme has benefited nearly 100 young people with limited resources from marginalized areas of the state, who are enrolled in undergraduate programs and have financial support that allows them to meet their maintenance needs.

In addition, the Regulated Pass was established, to offer spaces at the top level to high school students (CNMS) who have stood out for their careers.

In order to contribute to the construction of a culture of peace and the consolidation of a human rights-friendly society, the Institutional Programme for Gender Equality (UGénero), the Human Rights Advocacy and the Human Rights Mediation and Conciliation to settle conflicts between members of the university community.

The need to enhance university talent and that the work done transcends the classrooms, the Ecosystem of Linking, Innovation, Development and Application of Knowledge, (VIDA UG) was created. In addition, strategic projects and alliances were realized, such as the one carried out with the Ministry of Health of Guanajuato with the installation of the University Hospital of León, and the Vida UG Medical Tower.

In his speech, Dr. Guerrero Agripino thanked the opportunity to lead the efforts of the legendary hive during the period 2015-2019, and reiterated that he closed this cycle with satisfaction and pride in the work done, but aware that there is still much to go way forward to live up to the demands posed by the current context.

Representing the student community, student Michel Alejandra Vergara Arredondo, argued that being part of the UG is a privilege and source of pride, offering multiple opportunities for comprehensive training and the development of the potential of those who are part of the institution.

For his part, Dr. Geovanni Hernández Gómez, professor in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies at Yuriria headquarters and Executive Director of UG Guanajuato Innova Technopark, stated that the UG is a "large and grandiose" institution, with critical strength and constructive and above all, with great transformative power: education. He therefore called on his colleagues to redouble their efforts to train students, incorporate technological tools into the teaching-learning process, and to engage with society to help meet the demands of the environment.

Because the Governor of the State, Lic. Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo was unable to attend the event, a video was screened with his message, in which he congratulated the university community and recognized the leadership of Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino and his team.

At the same time, he endorsed his government's support for the House of Studies and expressed pride in having a high-level institution, which has added four years of success to its history.

The ceremony, held in the State Auditorium, brought together students, academic and administrative staff, sole-person authorities and members of the management team, as well as representatives of the collegiate bodies of the UG. Representatives of the public authorities, officials from different levels of government and representatives of educational institutions also attended.
