León, Gto., August 9, 2019.- Academics and students from the University of Manchester from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science visited the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León with the intention of establishing a collaboration agreement to share projects of research, academics, students and the possibility of establishing postgraduate courses with double degrees and strategic projects in health, social sciences and humanities and engineering.

Dr Alessandro Patti, Director of Internationalization, Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, attached to the University of Manchester, laid the foundations for establishing this academic alliance.

This institution has an organizational structure very similar to that of the University of Guanajuato and especially with the Campus León shares five main topics that encompass university work, these topics are: energy, biotechnology, cancer, materials global inequalities.

Since 2015 the Science and Engineering Division (DCI) of the Campus León began with this bilateral relationship; in that year Dr. Alejandro Gil-Villegas Montiel, professor-researcher in the Department of Physical Engineering held a gap year at the University of Manchester from which Newton Found was released, a project that receives UK funding in co-participation with the Royal Academy of Engineering.

From the establishment of this project, two academics made stays: by the UG, Dr. Gil-Villegas Montiel himself and Dr. Flor Siperstein from the University of Manchester.

In 2018 this participation was extended to more academics, among which Dr. Alessandro Patti and Carlos Avendaño stood out; while from the Division of Science and Engineering participated Dr. Marco Laurati who, together with Dr. Gil-Villegas Montiel, belongs to the academic body of Statistical Mechanics.

On the other hand, in the framework of this visit, the graduate of Biomedical Engineering of the Campus León, Gerardo Campos Villalobos, currently a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester offered two talks aimed at graduate students and re-entry of the DCI. The young researcher is a success story for both institutions which is why he was invited.

Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector of Campus León, was present at the understanding meeting; Dr. José de Jesús Bernal Alvarado, Academic Secretary of the León Campus; Dr. David Ives Ghislain Delepine, Director of the Division of Science and Engineering and M. Carolina Sánchez Martínez, General Coordinator of Academic Development of this campus as well as Drs. Patti and Gil-Villegas Montiel.
