Guanajuato, Gto., September 3, 2019.- Dr. Maciste Habacuc Macías Cervantes, professor-researcher at the University of Guanajuato, is the first Mexican to be part of the Executive Committee of the Physical Activity Network of the Americas or Physical Activity Network of the Americas (RAFA-PANA), where he will oversee coordinating investigative actions.

Dr. Macías Cervantes, attached to the Department of Medical Sciences in the Division of Health Sciences of campus León, explained that the network has representatives of public and private institutions from 23 countries.

For 18 years, RAFA-PANA has been seeking to contribute to maintaining, recovering and improving health and quality of life in the population of the Americas by promoting regular physical activity.

Dr. Maciste Habacuc Macías will be in charge of the research field, so it will be up to him to coordinate the actions to disseminate a scientific outreach bulletin, strengthen the linking work and create a national network, for which they have already been given with the University of Guadalajara, the University of Morelia and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO).

In an interview, he noted that he is the first Mexican to be part of the Executive Committee of the Physical Activity Network of the Americas, and stressed that coordinating research actions represents an opportunity to expand the collaboration of teachers and students of UG in projects with different institutions in Latin America.

He explained that to be part of the Executive Committee it was necessary to have more than three years on the Network, to deliver annual reports of its activities and to evaluate performance and work as promoter of physical activity.

Also, he recalled that the annual meeting of RAFA-PANA and the II International Course on Physical Activity and Health was recently held in León. The latter was sponsored by the University of Guanajuato and brought together more than 200 participants.
