Guanajuato, Gto., September 11, 2019.- Authorities from the University of Guanajuato (UG) and Soka University celebrated 30 years of academic cooperation, at an event reaffirming the commitment to continue to strengthen the links between institutions and countries.

The ceremony was held in the framework of the Forum and Expo of International Academic Collaboration, where the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, recalled that this Institution is the one that most academically linked has with Japanese universities.

"We currently have 39 academic collaboration agreements with 23 Japanese universities. We have postgraduate degrees of double degrees, a technological baccalaureate; we do joint research projects," he said.

He emphasized that this collaboration began 30 years ago, precisely with the University of Soka, in a very different context, when the distance between the two countries posed a great challenge. For this reason, he recognized those who initiated this academic collaboration: Dr. Santiago Hernández Ornelas and the M. Luis Rionda.

At the event was recognized by Soka University President Dr. Yoshihisa Baba, who in his message argued that both Soka and UG are dedicated to training international students, and with this spirit of constant work they form leaders for a globalized world.

He also thanked all those who have collaborated in the union of the two universities and was honored to participate in this event.

For his part, the Consul General of Japan in León, Mr. Osamu Hokida, said that the academic and cultural link between the two institutions is another example of the excellent relationship that exists between the two countries. It revealed that more than 2,000 Japanese live in the state of Guanajuato, and nearly 300 Japanese companies have been installed.

Therefore, he welcomed the link between Soka University and University of Guanajuato, and I am confident that this collaboration will continue.

At the ceremony was present the Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Sergio Antonio Silva Muñoz; director of International Relations and Academic Collaboration, Dr. Elías Ledesma Orozco, as well as sole-on-one authorities from the four university campuses and the College of the Higher Middle Level, as well as students and those who participate in the activities International Academic Collaboration Expo.
