Guanajuato, Gto., September 24, 2019.- Students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) won four silver medals and one bronze medal in the Ibero-American Inter-University Competition in Mathematics. This competition was held from September 19 to 24 at the Centre for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT).

The winning students are from the Bachelor of Mathematics and the Bachelor of Computer Science from the Department of Mathematics of Guanajuato University.

The competition aims to encourage the study of mathematics and academic excellence in our Ibero-American university community, improving scientific capabilities through motivation and international competitiveness by providing thus to the social, cultural and economic development of our countries.

Dennis Joaquín Díaz Díaz, Israel Bonal Rodríguez, Isaiah Fernando de la Fuente Jiménez and Pablo Meré Hernández won silver medals; while Juan Adolfo Franco won a bronze medal, all from the UG's Department of Mathematics.

Pablo Meré commented on behalf of his classmates that everyone is proud and satisfied to have won a medal, indicated that the competition consisted of answering two exams and that Mexican students from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, participated just to mention some.

The student at Guanajuato University emphasized that winning means that "we have high levels in the UG's Mathematics Department, in addition, we as students are very committed to academic training. There was a selective process to participate, we started 20 and only five of us made the final and we all won a medal."
