Salamanca, Gto., October 4, 2019.- Students from the Engineering Division of the University of Guanajuato (UG) organized the ROB-COM competition to strengthen their academic growth by prototyping mobile robotics.

Jonathan Duarte Jasso, president of the student chapter of the Mexican Mechatronics Association (AMM) at DICIS, reported that the event was organized in conjunction with the student chapter Robotic Automation Society (RAS) and the Institute of Engineers in Electricity and Electronics (IEEE) at Salamanca headquarters.

The first stage of the contest was called "followers of lines", whose dynamics consist of getting the robots to travel the track circuit in the shortest possible time without leaving the line.

The first-place winners were Daniel Bahena García, Roberto Carlos Gutiérrez Pérez, Hugo Erasmo Hernández Mejía and Edwin Iván Villafaña Ramírez, with the mobile robotic prototype ITC.

The second place went to Oscar Alberto Santos Muñoz, Ricardo Jaramillo Hernández, Samuel Villalpando Gamiño and José Eliseo Bernabet Regla Félix with the prototype Follower of your heart.

The second stage of competition was in the "mini sumo" test consisting of a fight of autonomous robots trying to push themselves and pull their opponent out of a delimited space called dojo.

The first place was for the prototype "Roboesponja" created by Miguel Angel Rojas Andrade and Sergio Flores Mosqueda. The second site for the prototype "Lobo" made by Brenda Mendoza Sierra, Fátima Gabriela Solís Reyes and Jonathan Ledesma Ruelas. The third prize was won by the prototype "Red" by Luis Daniel Ramírez Guerra, Rosa Isela Soto Celedón and Emmanuel Jurado Páramo.

"This event helped integrate the entire student community, showing new-entry colleagues to motivate them to face new things. In addition, inviting external universities created links to strengthen academic growth," said Jonathan Duarte.
