Salamanca, Gto., October 15, 2019.- The Mexican Society of Mechanical Engineering (SOMIM) recognized the trajectory of the Professor of the University of Guanajuato (UG) Dr. Abel Hernández Guerrero.

The professor-researcher received the distinction during the XXV Annual International Congress 2019 of SOMIM, which was organized together with the National Technologic of Mexico in Mazatlan.

Dr. Abel Hernández completed his bachelor's degree from Guanajuato University, later completing his master's and doctorate at Oregon State University and pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship at Texas A&M University. As a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering he has published more than 310 scientific papers, both in scientific journals and in international and national congresses, book, edited and co-edited volumes, and reports.

He is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and belongs to the National System of Researchers, currently with Level 2. He holds 6 patents in process, 3 granted and has graduated 96 students in both doctoral, master's and bachelor's degrees.

In 2013 he received the McDonald Mentoring Award at the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, in San Diego, California. He received the ASME Johnson and Johnson Medal in Chicago, Illinois in 2006. Fellow ASME Los Angeles, California in 2004. He also received the worldwide ASME Student Section Advisor award in New York in 2001.

He is a member of the Editorial Committee of the international journal of Thermodynamics and in ASME Journal of Energy Resources Technology collaborated in two periods. He was a member of the Editorial Committee of the scientific journals International Journal of Energy, International Journal of Energy Research and ASME International Journal of Fuel Cell Technology.

He has been a member of numerous international and national scientific committees. He has been president and vice president of the Mexican Society of Mechanical Engineering and leader of various sections and committees of ASME. At the University he has been head of department, as well as coordinator of the undergraduate and postgraduate program.
