León, Gto., October 16, 2019.- The President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino inaugurated the class that the Mexican Academy of Surgery instituted to honor Dr. Santiago Hernández Ornelas.

In the conference "The Criminal Responsibility of the Doctor", Dr. Guerrero Agripino said that when talking about criminal law, the person who can commit the crime must be put at the center. He stressed that criminal law should be the last possibility to guarantee legal assets and avoid resorting to it against any misconduct.

He compared it to the medical field, where maximum treatment for mild discomfort cannot be used, as it can be counterproductive. "The same is true of criminal law, as in medicine, there are different treatment alternatives for a case," he said.

In his presentation, he offered examples of cases in which doctors might be involved in the exercise of their profession, and how they would be approached from the legal field.

In conclusion, it was important to analyze in the current context the challenges of Industry 4.0 for health teams, lawyers, among other professionals with the aim of delimiting responsibilities and defining when legal assets are affected. That is, to prevent unauthorized offences, but also to avoid excessive use of criminal law.

The President of the Mexican Academy of Surgery, Dr. Juan Miguel Abdo Francis indicated that there are about 430 members of the Academy and stressed that it has more than 80 years of existence with the aim of promoting through its experience and active participation the development of education and research in all branches of surgery, contributes to maintaining the health of Mexicans.

Dr. Juan Miguel Abdo referred to the prestige of the UG and considered it a privilege to establish a class in the institution, so he made a recognition to the educational institution for his participation in the program "The Academy with you" in session between the Mexican Academy of Surgery and the UG.

The Rector of the León Campus, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, member of the Mexican Academy of Surgery celebrated the establishment of the chair "Dr. Santiago Hernández Ornelas" because its pays homage to a visionary man who was a teacher of life.

The President of the Central Chapter of the Mexican Academy of Surgery, Dr. Carlos Tena Santiago gave a few words in which he referred to Dr. Santiago Hernández Ornelas as a man of great intelligence and vast culture who was former Director of the Faculty of Medicine and President of the UG so he worked for academy, research and teaching.

Dr. José Manuel Sánchez, Former President of the Central Chapter of the Mexican Academy of Surgery and Academic Emeritus of the AMC was in charge of reading a brief semblance of Dr. Santiago Hernández Ornelas that he mentioned that he was part of the first generation of the UG School of Medicine, in addition to an outstanding track record in the area of medicine and teaching, its extensive knowledge and social awareness led it to develop in various fields, as was his time as director of the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato (IEEG). He was also the first physician specializing in endocrinology in León, to mention only one of his achievements.
