Guanajuato, Gto., October 21, 2019.- Dr. Juan Gabriel Segovia Hernández, professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of the University of Guanajuato (UG) and a member of the Academic Corps of Industrial Process Engineering, was appointed Associate Editor of the Chemical Engineering And Processing: Process Intensification Journal one of the most relevant indexed journals in Chemical Engineering published by the prestigious publishing house Elsevier.

Due to extensive experience in the area of process intensification, the editor-in-chief of the Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification Journal decided to appoint Dr. Juan Segovia Hernández to one of the 7 associate editor positions.

This journal is endorsed by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) Working Group on Process Intensification. It is aimed at researchers in industry and academia, working in the field of Process Engineering and related to the theme of Process Intensification. Published articles demonstrate how new discoveries, developments and theories in the field of Process Engineering, Process Intensification, can be used for the analysis and design of innovative equipment, as well as methods of processing with substantially improved sustainability, efficiency and environmental performance.

Dr. Segovia Hernández is a member of the National System of Researchers (level II), a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences, former National President of the Mexican Academy of Research and Teaching in Chemical Engineering (AMIDIQ) and former coordinator of the Postgraduate Chemical Engineering, has as research the synthesis, design, optimization and control of intensified sustainable processes.

Under this line of research, for more than 10 years, he has managed to publish three books in English in the area of process intensification and optimization published by Springer (2015), Taylor and Francis (2017) and Gruytier (2019). It has the registration of three patents in the area of process intensification applied to the production of biofuels and silicon-derived products.

He has also published more than 130 articles in international indexed journals with high impact factor and of those articles has more than 1,800 independent citations. Its collaborative network includes prestigious researchers at major national and international universities with whom it actively collaborates: University of Wisconsin, Carnegie-Mellon University, National University of Colombia, University of Salamanca (Spain), University of Southern Denmark (USD), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Kyoto University, Manchester University, among others.

He has had industrial collaborations with the prestigious company Akzo Nobel (Netherlands). From these collaborations he has managed to generate projects that have culminated in the direction of 20 doctoral theses (one of them with Summa Cum Laude mention), 25 master's degree and 50 degrees. He has been a speaker at more than 30 national and international congresses and a guest professor at several national and international universities.

Another of the important results in the development of his research line is that, together with Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro also professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences and Member of the Academic Body Industrial Process Engineering, and their respective working groups, achieved the design, construction and commissioning of a dividing wall distillation column (which is installed in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory) one of the intensified distillation technologies that are more relevant today. It is important to note that at the historical level, it is the only one existing in Mexico and one of the four instituted, also for academic purposes, at the international level.
