Guanajuato, Gto., a 23 de octubre de 2019.- The University of Guanajuato signed a collaboration agreement with Capilano University of Canada, a public institution based in northern Vancouver.

The Academic Secretary of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Sergio Antonio Silva Muñoz mentioned that the agreement will be a great opportunity for the university community to carry out strategic projects in both countries. He recalled that for 40 years, the University of Guanajuato had collaborations with Canadian higher education institutions and stressed that this agreement would serve the development of the arts, in specific music.

Composers from the Department of Music at University of Guanajuato are intended to premiere some of their works in Canada and vice versa, as well as the exchange of professors for research summers and students for academic stays. He thanked Capilano University and assured that the relationship between the two universities will continue to strengthen.

For his part, the Manager of the International Experience Center of the Capilano University, Francisco Silva distinguished that it is a great privilege this union that has the purpose of progressing because the agreement means a pact between the two universities, the same that they have a reciprocal commitment.

The event was also attended by the Consul of Canada in Guadalajara, Lewis Coughlin, who indicated that this is the beginning of a dialogue that is part of Mexico's good relations with Canada, "countries that reunite to strengthen education".

Finally, the Director of International Relations and Academic Collaboration of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Elías Ledesma Orozco thanked Capilano University and said that it is important to give students an open attitude towards others other cultures and other internationally profiled environments.

This is the second time these universities have signed an agreement for their students and teachers to develop in diverse cultural environments. This agreement was signed in the framework of the 47th Cervantino International Festival (FIC) which has Canada as its guest country.
