Guanajuato, Gto., Noviembre 11, 2019.- The Debate Team of the University of Guanajuato (EDUG) was the winner in the tenth edition of the National University Congress of Debate with the central theme "Action for the climate" that was held in the city of Zapopan, Jalisco.

The winning team of Guanajuato University will represent Mexico before the United Nations (UN) in the Commission on the Social and Legal Status of Women to be held in New York City in March 2020.

On this occasion, the Congress had the participation of 15 teams from 10 universities of different states of the country: Nayarit, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, CDMX, Veracruz, and Jalisco.

The congress is organized by "Mar Adentro de México A.C", a non-profit organization that provides human training, this being understood as the integral development of people, the strengthening of values and human rights, through the generation of skills of thought and dialogue, so that young people can positively impact society.

Martha Daniela Hernández Salgado seventh semester student of the Law Degree and Michel Alejandra Vergara Arredondo seventh semester student of the bachelor's in international trade, members of the winning team expressed their satisfaction to the have obtained such national recognition.

Both students mentioned that the preparation to participate in the contest was arduous because it not only involves doing rounds of discussions but doing a thorough investigation on the subject. They noted the importance of promoting critical thinking and discourse in both debate and oratory as they are indispensable tools for the development of the human being.

The "Mar Adentro de México" discussion model is recognized as a high pedagogical impact methodology, which manages to enhance critical, deep thinking, research and appropriation capabilities in the people who use it, as well as manages to develop participants' emotional and social intelligence skills.

Thanks to the programs of this organization have benefited more than 100 thousand people, both in the social, academic, business and public spheres for the sustainable development of Mexico.

The Debate Team of the University of Guanajuato has obtained outstanding results, among them the first and third place in the State Public Debate Competition 2019 organized by the Institute of Youth, as well as Best Speaker; first place in the State Oratory Competition convened by the State Electoral Court. They were national runners-up of the National University Congress of Debate held in Sinaloa; representation at the World University Championships based in Chile; representation, for the third time, in the Legal and Social Commission of Women at the United Nations (UN) as delegates of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and Mexico.
