 Monterrey, N.L., November 11, 2019.- High School Students (ENMS) León Historic Center of Guanajuato University (UG) earned their pass to the international phase of the WER Robotics Tournament to be held in Shanghai, China.

Four Teams of the High Schools (ENMS) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) had an outstanding participation in the national stage of the of WER Robotics Tournament 2019, in which the ENMS Centro Histórico León obtained the fifth place and its classification to represent the country in the competition that will be held in China.

The national tournament was held in Monterrey, Nuevo León with the participation of 162 teams from the country, where the ENMS Team Centro Histórico León scored 900 points and a time of 00:08:44, which allowed them to get the fifth place and thus a ticket to participate at the international tournament to be held on December 14 and 15.

The ENMS Centro Histórico team consists of students René Martínez García, Rey Eduardo Vargas Vargas and Octavio Daniel Almeida Ramirez advised by the Mtro. Carlos Florentino Origel Zavala and José Luis Alberto Silva Quiroz.

Mtro. Carlos Florentino Origel mentioned that the students are very happy to have obtained this achievement because it represented their last opportunity to participate since they take the fifth semester of the bivalent baccalaureate.

It is worth mentioning that the students took the first place in the Regional Robotics Competition of the National Association of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education (ANUIES) held in Tepic, Nayarit in May. So, the work done throughout the year has paid off and now they will prepare to have an outstanding participation in the International tournament.

In the national stage, the tournament consisted of four phases: in the first stage they achieved 60 points which placed them in the last places which motivated them to identify the errors and in the next stage they achieved 460, placing in the place 20; in the third stage of confrontation they managed to overcome the opponent, to finally get the fifth position.

Meanwhile, three teams from the School of Higher Mid-Level of Salamanca participated with the projects: "Los Robocuates" obtaining the 47th place; "MIDORI" place 71 and "Los J's" place 116.

The WER is a unique educational robotics tournament in the world; its purpose is to stimulate intellectual development, competitiveness and a current vision of globalization in elementary, secondary and high school students. The challenges, goals and dynamics of the WER tournament drive the cognitive and socio-emotional development of participating students.
