Irapuato, Gto. November 14, 2019.- To demonstrate that youth want to be part of the solution of environmental problems, high school students, CECyTE and CBTIS Baccalaureates from several municipalities of the state and private colleges, participated in the First Energy and Environmental Sustainability Fair WAT-E, presenting their prototypes of sustainable engineering in the Division of Life Sciences of the University of Guanajuato (UG).

Dr. Juan Antonio Ramírez Vázquez, coordinator of the Engineering in Environmental Sciences and Renewable Energy Engineering programs considered this fair is raises awareness of the resources and energy that are consuming the world's demanding population water, energy, transport, etc. with an impact on the environment.

The prototype competition registered 25 participating teams of which were winners in the "Water and Sanitation" category with the first place the project "Demineralization and disinfection of well water" by students Demi Jovanna Suárez Aldana and Valeria Guadalupe Montoya of the CECyTE of Doctor Mora.

The second place was obtained by the project "JICA" of Ana Cristina Negrete, Juliana Sánchez and Verónica Mosqueda students of CBTIS 171 of Abasolo, which consists of an intelligent shower with use of ultrasonic and temperature sensor, servo motors and electric valves; and the third prize went to the "Muatli" project developed by Uriel López and Miguel Ramírez.

In the category "Clean and Affordable Energy" the project "Solar Refrigerator" of Alejandra Lara, Andrea Guzmán and Christian Lara took first place. The second site was for "Bi-Charger" by Daniel Martínez, Brandon Ramirez and Emmanuel Escoto. Third place was assigned to "Innovative Biomaterials for Energy Sustainability Fiber Kapok" by Teresa López Estrada and Aarón Sánchez Ramírez, which is an insulating system that can inhibit the passage of thermal energy by reducing electricity consumption.

When the event opened, Dr. Martín Picón Núñez, Academic Secretary of the Campus, considered that today's youth are the most committed to the environment, because it is the young people who demand immediate action, so he celebrated his enthusiastic visit to the UG in Irapuato.

The fair and the competition were organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Academic Body of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, whose professors prepared a program of conferences focused on the care of the environment.
