Guanajuato, Gto., November 25, 2019.- The University of Guanajuato signed a collaboration agreement with the State Government and the State Attorney General's Office for access to a life free from violence for university women; it is the first of its kind at the national level to sign a public university with government agencies.

"Societies and institutions are obliged to redouble efforts to address and eradicate violence against women," said the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, who stressed that this agreement seeks the "co-responsibility and strategies to address this problem."

Implementing the programmes and actions established in the Convention include agencies and units such as: The Women's Justice Center, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Health, the Guanajuatenses Women's Institute and the Directorate of Women Equality and Social Co-responsibility of the UG.

This seeks to consolidate a policy of prevention and attention to violence against women at the University of Guanajuato, joining efforts and establishing trained personnel for care, accompaniment and follow-up.

According to what Dr. Guerrero Agripino mentioned, in the UG there are more than 43 thousand students, more than 23 thousand are women, the enrollment in the high schools surpasses the number of women with 53 percent.

The Governor of the State, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo assured that the signing of this agreement consolidates a cross-cutting strategy and stated that Guanajuato is the second state with the greatest advancement in gender and public policy perspective, "it is a struggle of every day, in which society must have a large share."

For her part, the holder of the Institute for the Guanajuatenses women (IMUG), Anabel Pulido López said that universities have a leading role because they participate in the formation of people, "to eradicate violence you have to start by recognizing the and added that Guanajuato is distinguished because the issue is assumed as an entire government, not an institute, which also involves autonomous and non-governmental organizations.

In this regard, the Attorney General of the State of Guanajuato, M. Carlos Zamarripa Aguirre reiterated the commitment of the institution that leads to recognize this problem, but also to protect and give justice to the victims.

He assured that such actions were a crucial sign of the evolution of the State and the message of zero tolerance for violence and celebrated this alliance for the execution of cross-cutting actions that demonstrate loyalty to the rule of law and to the principles underlying him.

The objective of the signed agreement is to carry out cross-cutting, joint and coordinated actions for women to access their right to a life free of violence at the university level.

Among the agreements and commitments made are immediate and gender-based attention to cases of violence that women in the university community are victims of, training for teaching and administrative staff in the perspective of violence against women, equality and non-discrimination.

There is also the promotion of a culture of respect, protection and guarantee of women's rights on a permanent basis in the university community, disseminating tools to identify and prevent violence against women at the university level and implement gender-based re-education programs for men who are generators of violence.

The actions derived from the agreement will benefit more than 43,000 students from the four university campuses and the 11 schools of the High School College.

She participated as an honorary witness in the signing of the agreement, Congresswoman Ma. Guadalupe Salas Bustamante, President of the Congress of the State of Guanajuato, who expressed confidence that this agreement will contribute to prevent, care for, and eradicate violence against women.
