León, Guanajuato. October 13, 2015.- Last Wednesday October 14, professor and researcher from the University of Guanajuato, Ph.D. Octavio Obregón Díaz received the "Crónica" award in Science and Technology 2015, which is given to Mexicans that have outstand in the scientific area, academy, culture and communication.

In the sixth edition, the Editorial Council from the "Crónica" Group will also acknowledge Ph.D. Ruy Pérez Tamayo in Academy; Juan Villoro in Culture, and Javier Pérez de Anda in Public Communication.

The "Crónica" award emerged with the intention to generate an editorial dynamic in positive news, and to recognize women and men that contribute with their talent to build a better country, such is the case of the UG's Campus Leon researcher.

On this matter, Ph.D. Octavio Obregón, emeritus researcher from the National Researchers System (SNI), pointed that he approximately wrote seven spreading articles for the Academy section where he covered different aspects related to quantum physics.

"The Cosmos, our Universe, we have the idea that in the beginning it was very small, then, the physics we have to use to describe it is the quantum physics, because is the one that has to do with small things, with the atom, the nucleus, elementary particles, with the tiniest we know. Therefore, the firs moments of the universe must be described by quantum physics", said Ph.D. Obregón Díaz.

The assigned researcher to the Department of Physics from the University of Guanajuato has been one of the main promoters of the resurgence of research in Gravitation in Mexico since the 70's. The areas in which he has contributed to Physics are in the areas of Gravitation, Relativistic Astrophysics, Super-gravitation, Field and String theory.

He is internationally renowned by proposing using the super-gravity in Quantum Cosmology, idea that got the attention from Stephen Hawking, one of the brightest theoretical physicists in our time. Ph.D. Obregón Díaz became the first physicist in Latin America to have published with Hawking.

The "Crónica" award adds to his distinctions such as the Nobel Prize in Science and Arts (1999), Emeritus researcher from the National Researchers System (2011), "Honoris Causa" doctorate by the Universidad Autonóma Metropolitana (Mexico, 2012), Award to the Development of Physics in Mexico by the Mexican Society of Physics (2012).

The "Crónica" 2015 award ceremony occurred this last October 14 in the Auditorium "Jaime Torres Bodet" from the National Anthropology Museum at 10:30 hrs.
