Guanajuato, Gto., August 25, 2016.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) received one of the most interesting contemporary thinkers of our time, the French philosopher and sociologist, Gilles Lipovetsky.

UG's General Auditorium, was the enclosure who held students, professors, and community in general, who listened a master conference named "From the lightness." Lipovetsky arrived for the first time to Guanajuato to speak about his most recent published work, where he addresses the topic of lightness, which he defines as the dominant trend of the spirit of our time.

During his conference, the French theorist highlighted several aspects that concern the occidental society of this time, such as technology, excess of consumption, body, religion, sports, sexuality, art, capitalism, just to mention some.

He indicated a strong contrast between the light and the heavy, since they are two poles that go together in diverse situation, for example, in the use of technology, it provides us lightness when doing distinct functions to be practical, but at the same time, causes heaviness by being daily attached to them through the screens of the mobile devices.

One of the relevant aspects he addresses was the contrast between the first modernity with the current modernity, since in the previous there was a morale load, in addition of obligation that today have become lighter, and the morale has gone to the background.

Now the light and the compact is what rules in the world, such is the case of nanotechnology, thought to transform atoms and molecules, technology that will revolution the world of medicine, considering the positive and negative effects: is a development based in the lightness.

Contraire of what would be thought of lightness, that turns everything more subtle and agile, is an element that causes anguish by producing a freedom without a link nor a sense of belonging.

To finalize, he distinguished that education is a fundamental tool that will give us the capability to construct a society that doesn't focus solely in the freedom of hyper-consumption, but serve to make reflection and criticize our environment to achieve its improvement.

The event was organized by several instances: the rectory of Campus Guanajuato, the Class José Revueltas, the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus Leon and Guanajuato and the Direction of Cultural Extension.
