
Guanajuato, Gto., August 29, 2016. With a ceremony held at the General Auditorium of the University of Guanajuato (UG), began the celebrations of the "100 years of Chemistry in Guanajuato," that allow to remark the human, scientific, economic and social impact of this discipline.
As part of this celebration, they consider making an homage to 100 characters of the state that have been linked with the development of Chemistry, as well as to divulge the impact of this science in the development of the country through academic, cultural and even sport activities, which involve students in the basic, high and higher levels.
It is a national summon, to which the University of Guanajuato sums; institution that has made contributions to Chemistry for over 180 years, expressed UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.
Speaking about the transcendence of Chemistry, he said, that as same as the rest of the sciences, the progress of humanity must be an influence. Therefore, besides acknowledging the impact of Chemical research in the economic and social development of the state, he emphasized in the numerous challenges it faces, such as the preservation of the environment, the production of food and drugs, among others.
In his message, the President of the Education Commission in the Republic's Senate, M.A. Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, said that there is no human task that doesn't go through Chemistry, hence, the importance to recognize who have contributed the progress.
While the Secretary of Innovation, Science and Higher Education, Dr. Arturo Lara López, representing the State Governor, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, exposed that the University of Guanajuato has developed a pioneer and leadership role in the study of Chemistry.
In a welcome message, the Councilor President of the State Council of Guanajuato for the Festivities of the "100 years of Chemistry in Guanajuato", Eng. José Martínez González, was confident there will be more events that contribute on giving its true value to Chemistry and the rest of the exact sciences.
At the ceremony were also present the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Eng. Eusebio Vega Pérez; the President of the Commission of Education, Science and Technology of the State Congress, M.A. Silvia Leticia Villegas Nava; the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development, Lic. Guillermo Romero Pacheco; the President of the State Commission for the Planning of Higher Education, M.A. Andrés Govela Gutiérrez; the President of the Higher Council of the Institute of Negotiation and University Leadership (IGLU), M.A. Silvia Álvarez Bruneliere; the President of the Chamber of the Industry of Tannery in the State of Guanajuato, Pedro Camarena Plascencia and the representative of Mexican Petrol, Eng. Mario Alberto Muñoz Medina.
