Guanajuato, Gto., August 25, 2016.- The visual artists Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza participate in the expo "Within limits/zwischen grenzen" in the Museum of Actual Art Ex Teresa, located in the city of Mexico, as part of the activities of the dual year between Mexico and Germany.
This exhibit, is a sample of ten sound installations of Mexican and German Artists, which besides presenting in the Actual Art Ex Teresa Museum they will also be exhibited in the Laboratory of Art Alameda.
The sound installation of the University of Guanajuato grads, Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza, combines the scientific studies with the singularity of art, the piece is called "Sideral" and it is defined by the artists in the curator text as "the first prototype of an instrument that makes modified magnetic field readings in the surface of the meteor called The Conception or Adargas."
It is precise to mention that according the text that describes the work, "The Conception" is a metallic meteor of 3.3 tons which was transported from Sierra Adargas near Huejuquilla (Jiménez, Chihuahua) on April 29th 1780 to the nearby Hacienda La Concepción. The Astronomy Institute of UNAM has it under its custody since 1976.
The relevance is that after 40 years, this meteor is removed from such institute to the Museum of Actual Art Ex Teresa." The prototype done by renowned artists, --trough field readings—generates a sound construction that takes as a referent the sound of the place where the meteor hit. In addition, the construction combines with synth voices that refer to percussion sounds made in the rarámuri rituals. "A gesture that connects sidereal space and life manifests that bloom on Earth," indicate the artists in their text.
This particular work can be appreciated by all interested spectators until next October 23, 2016. The work of Armas and Gilberto goes beyond the study and domain of a technique, but relates science with science and wonders of the universe, it is by due this reason, that "Sideral" was made in collaboration with the Institute of Astronomy and General Direction of Divulgation of Science from UNAM.
In the expo "Without limits" also participated artists such as: Jens Brand, Manuel Rocha, Stefan Roigk and Rolf Julius, and in the "Laboratory of Art Alameda" works of Mario de Vega, Lorena Mal, Stefan Rummel and Rogelio Sosa. The curator of the project is the specialist in the sound art Carsten Seiffarth of Berlin.
Marcela Armas works in the intersection between art, science and technology. In her work, she explores the poetic potential of materials and mechanisms to reflect on matters that bevel the conflictive nature of social and human relationships. Her works are machines and devices that are constructed from a research on nature of the materials that compose it.
In 2007 she obtained the support from Young Creator from the National Fund for Culture and Arts. Together with Gilberto Esparza, with whom she works in the collective, obtained the first place of sculpture ARTFest 05 and the first prize ARCO / BEEP of electronic art in the ARCO Fair Madrid 2012 for her project "Stella Machine," just to mention some of the prizes.
