Guanajuato, Gto., August 30, 2016.- Students from the University of Guanajuato (UG) obtained a gold medal during their participation in the VII Science Fair of the North-Northeast Scientific Movement 2016 (MOCINN) and the 1st Cariri Science Fair (MOCICA) in Brazil with their project "Infinite water."
This initiative is 100% sustainable and, since its beginnings in 2015, seeks to contribute in diminishing the impact the industrial processes have in water pollution and the environment.
The students that work in the development of "Infinite water" are: Maria Elisa Constantini Báez, Josue Sebastian Salazar Falcón and Axel Ambriz Pérez, students from the degree in Chemical Engineering of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of Campus Guanajuato.
In addition, as a result of their exposition in the fair of Brazil, the project was recognized for its great scientific impact by the Brazilian Association of Encouragement to Science and Technology (ABRITEC), and was selected to participate in the International Fair CIENTEC 2017 in Lima, Peru.
In an interview, the young creators of "Infinite water" shared that their experience in Brazil was very enriching and open the doors to show their project outside Mexico, so they hope to have a larger reach and impact on society.
They added that this initiative will bring large economic benefits and great impact for the environment, and pointed that the electrical usage of this process could mean, it can complement with the use of alternate energies such as solar panels.
They explained that the electrochemical process to reuse water consists on liberating flocculating agents (aluminum and iron ions) which ease the separation of water pollutants, it may not make it drinkable but allows its use in the industrial processes.
It is important to mention that the project "Infinite water" has been recognized in diverse national fairs, such as the state encounter of ExpoCiencias Guanajuato; ExpoCiencias Nacional 2015; the largest event of digital inclusion in the world, "Aldea Digital;" also achieved excellent comments in the 1st National Congress of Innovation in the city of Guanajuato, where they competed against postgraduate projects.
