Guanajuato, Gto., September 1, 2016. With the objective to provide a better attention in crisis intervention and prevention of suicide, there was a course given to the interns of the psychological department of the High Schools of the University of Guanajuato (UG).
Throughout the years, the suicide rate in the young population between 15 and 29 has been high. In statistical data of INEGI 2013, 2,345 cases occurred in youth in this range of age (40.8% of the total), observing a rate of 7.5% suicides for every 100,000 youth at that age.
By sex, the suicide rates among youth between 15 to 19 years old are 12 for every 100,00 men and 3.2 for every 100, 000 women.
Due to the increased level of suicide in a national level, prevention campaigns are being made, among them, this course stands out, which was divided in two: the first where they cover what actions must be considered when a person is in the brink of a suicide situation, as well as the legal implications, the methods and techniques of attention and intervention in a psychological breakdown.
The objective is that the interns are duly capable to provide timely attention and detection mainly in the student population.
During the second part of the course, there was the participation of Brigadiers from the Fire Department of Guanajuato City who trained the interns in: rescue maneuvers, first aid attention, how to act in emergency cases and reanimation techniques and complementary information for the attention in situations of psychological breakdown.
