festival-ajedrez-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., September 6, 2016.- The College Chess Festival finalized with formational activities in an agile and fun fashion, where the main participants were the students from the University of Guanajuato (UG).

During the festival, students from the four campus and most of the high schools participated, as well as other educational institutions such as the Tecnológico de León, Instituto Politécnico Nacional-León, the Centro de Investigaciones Matemáticas (CIMAT), Sistema Avanzado de Bachillerato y Educación Superior of the state of Guanajuato (SABES) and public.

The opening was in charge of Dr. Sara Julsrud, Director of Cultural Extension and M.A. Osvaldo Chávez, Director of Student Development, who agreed on the importance of the comprehensive formation of the student through ludic, sport and cultural activities.

Dr. Marcos Aurelio Capistrán, researcher and professor from CIMAT, gave the opening talk "Harmony and attack in chess" same that was about the importance of the harmony of the pieces and plays in chess to defeat the opponent.

With examples of great plays of renowned chess masters such as Kasparov, Dr. Capistrán explained the attendants in an entertaining and clear fashion the concepts of harmony and attack.

In the exhibit matches were present the graduates from the Department of Architecture from UG, Eduardo Arias and Oscar Tun; in addition of Oscar Fabián Ortiz and Mariana Vargas, students from the department of Management and Direction of Businesses, who played in rounds of 3 matches with a time limit of 5 minutes, whose winner was Oscar Mauricio Tun Pinzón.

Likewise, 18 aficionados to solving chess problems gathered to contests and solve 6 problems, where each was destined an hour, the winner for solving the six problems was Eduardo Arias.

The films couldn't be left out and with two excellent functions for the moviegoers and chess players, it was screened "The seventh seal" from the Swedish director Ingmar Bergam and "The master play" of Edwar Zwick.

The second day of activities began early with the College Chess Tourney, which gathered more than 220 participants between players and spectators.

After 6 rounds and nearly six extenuating game hours, the first place was for Teresa de Jesús Garcia Ortiz, student of the Department of Mathematics; the second place was for Antonio Guillermo Alcántara, student of High School León; the third place was for Oscar Mauricio Tun Pinzón, graduate from the Department of Architecture; and the fourth place was for Alexande Amolitos Estrella, student of High School Celaya.

To close the activities of the College Chess Festival, Dr. Capistrán offered a simultaneous game against 20 opponents, almost two hours of intense rhythm and hundreds of plays were needed to Dr. Marcos Capistrán could finish with 16 wins and 4 ties, giving a show of good game and patience.

This First College Chess Festival was a success, where students and public managed to blend sport and culture. Besides the festival displayed the interdisciplinary work between the directions of Cultural Extension and Student Development.
