León, Gto., September 9, 2016.- Within the framework of the world day of suicide prevention, Dr. Ana María Chávez Hernández, professor-researcher from the Department of Psychology of Campus León, gathered a group of specialists to address, from different perspectives, the topic of suicide at the Colloquium "Contemporary Suicide-ology."

As a result of a joint work from specialists of the University of Guanajuato (UG) with members of the Mexican Association of Suicide-ology and the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), it was held the Colloquium with the objective to reveal the relevant aspects of the suicide phenomenon in the local, national and international area.

Dr. Ana María was who started the activities with the conference "Posthumous message from Mexican suicidal". In her intervention, he made an analysis of the demographic data from the suicide in the country, where it is highlighted as the second cause of death among women ranged 10 to 19 years old and the third cause in men in the same age range, this is according the data from the General Direction of Information of Health from the Department of Health in 2013.

It is important to mention that the state of Guanajuato is placed in the eighth position and the entities with higher suicide index in the country are Campeche, Aguascalientes and Chihuahua.

In her exposition, Dr. Ana Maria commented the methodological difficulties to which the specialist faces to study suicide and made mention of the features, attitudes and forms it manifests in the subject previous to decease. Hence, she considers the posthumous letters as an element that allows the approach of the feelings and thoughts that go through the mind of the suicidal.

"The particularities of the suicidal may vary according the environment in which the individual lived, but manifests similarities in some aspects such as: lack of objectives in life, feeling of failure, and as a high level of aggression towards one-self" she commented.

Likewise, UG's specialist, expressed the need to address the suicide since currently it represents a problem of public health in many countries of the world and with a considerable increase in the country, mainly in vulnerable zones.
