Guanajuato, Gto., September 9, 2016. The University of Guanajuato (UG) participated in the 22nd edition of Expo Water, where students and professors made games, workshops, experiments and diverse didactic activities to show the children the importance of preserving this natural resource.
Students and professors from Campus Celaya-Salvatierra and Irapuato-Salamanca set up a stand in the Water Market, which was held in the last day of activities from the Expo, that this year had the motto: "Cultural change, rational use."
Dr. Graciela Ruiz Aguilar, professor and co-responsible of the Porgram of Culture of Water from the National Commission of Water (Conagua) at the House of Studies, considered that these activities are made because UG is owed to society, but, above all, because the institution "is the vessel of great knowledge on how to handle water and preserve it," and it has to divulge such knowledge.
She revealed that currently, the University of Guanajuato is the only educational institution of the state that has the nomenclature of Space of Water Culture, which is granted by Conagua to recognize the actions the institution does to promote the rational use of water.
Thanks to this nomenclature, UG receives support to continue promoting water culture through talks, workshops and publish didactic and divulgation material.
For its participation in the Water Market, the college students created didactic material such as a lottery and an oca game, which allowed to reinforce what they were previously taught –with a story about the cycle of water—to children.
The students –from major and postgrad—participated in these actions voluntarily as part of their social service of Water Culture.
Dr. Graciela Ruiz, member of the Academic Body (in consolidation) of Biotechnology, Sustainability and Engineering, of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra, explained that they have more than five years making these activities at the University, and this is the second year they participate as an institution in Expo Water.
Regarding the social service program of Water Culture, revealed that first they train the students so they can speak in front of an audience and even design didactic material. The youth attend educational institutions of any level, from kindergarten to colleges, and divulge the importance of taking care of the water among the public.
The professor-researcher explained that, to receive support from the University of Guanajuato in activities related with Water Culture's promotion, you can attend the Direction of Liaison of the institution or write directly to the mail Esta dirección de correo electrónico está protegida contra spambots.
