Guanajuato, Gto., September 18, 2016.- With a great participation of students from the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DDAD) of the University of Guanajuato (UG), there was the award ceremony of the Contest of Architectonic Composition "Victor Manuel Villegas" 2016 edition, which this time had the topic of extension and value of the Museum of the Mummies.

The winner students were: José Pedro Rojas, first place; David Augusto Rodríguez Muñoz, second place and Gustavo Maximiliano Flores Terrones, third place; in addition of an honorable mention for Erick Baeza Sánchez.

The award ceremony was held in the Auditorium "Victor Manuel Villegas," venue Belen of Campus Guanajuato, in honor to the remarked scholar and the first director of the school of Architecture, in October 1959, a charge that posterior in 1962 assumed again.

It was the job of M.A. Juan Martín Aguilera Morales, Director of the Division of Architecture, Art and Design, to welcome the attendees, among them, Dr. Claudia Gutiérrez Padilla, Academic Secretary of Campus Guanajuato, who attended and gave a congratulation message to the students representing Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta, Rector of Campus Guanajuato.

Before the award ceremony, the attendees enjoyed of the play "Elegía" of Johann Kaspar Mertz, interpreted by Rolando Pérez Álvarez, student of the degree in Music from the very own DAAD.

The ceremony was in charge of Dr. René Navarrete Padilla, Academic Secretary of the Division, who remarked that UG delivers the winning project to the Municipal president of Guanajuato, with the purpose to encourage the link of the division and campus Guanajuato in activities that provide solutions to the demands of society. The project was received by M.A. Paloma Robles Lacayo, Director of the Museum of the Mummies.

Dr. Navarrete highlighted that this exercise allowed to reach several objective: the first of them, academic, with the elaboration of the projection, but at the same time allowed to answer the society to which the public University is owed and accentuating in the students the social commitment.

It is worth mentioning that the contest of Architectonic Composition "Victor Manuel Villegas Monroy" emerged in 2007, with the uneasiness to promote and encourage the healthy competition among the students of Architecture, through exercises where they test their creative skills and acquired knowledge, to boost them for a greater participation in the academic ambience; besides selecting the student that will participate in the Prize of Architectonic Composition Alberto J. Pani 2016 which is summoned by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) with a representative selected of each one of the schools and faculties of architecture affiliated to the Association of Institutions of Teaching of Architecture of the Mexican Republic, A.C. (ASINEA).

For the 2016 Edition of this contest, it was proposed the need to work in a conceptual proposal that would allow, besides being an exercise, to help society to solve social, cultural, urban and environmental aspects, resulting in the proposal of the extension and value of the Museum of the Mummies in Guanajuato.

They selected an intervention site that besides from dignifying, extending and valuing the Museum, generate through this a rector axis of integration with their immediate context, dignifying and unifying the surrounding commercial establishments creating at the same time a site for integration and social coexistence.

It is worth mentioning that they had the participation of 30 students, in one category from the seventh to the tenth semesters. The students worked in the classroom approximately 20 hours the days of August 26 and 27, 2016.
