Guanajuato, Gto., September 20, 2016.- From the sinister, the fantastic, the macabre, the gothic and even zombies, are the topics in the II Cursed Journeys, event held in the within the National Colloquium "Efraín Huerta" of Language and Literature, with the objective to deepen in the study of authors whose writing follows the aesthetic of "damness."

Rodrigo Névarez Magaña, student of the degree in Spanish Letters and organizer of the Cursed Journeys, commented that this project emerged from a personal uneasiness to know more about the Marquis de Sade, idea that grew and shared with the students' society from the Department of Hispanic Letters, who sponsored the first edition of these journeys, guided precisely by the Marquis de Sade.

In the second edition, the rector theme will be "the horror" and will spin towards two outstanding authors in the genre: Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. In addition, --commented the organizer—the Cursed Journeys will alternate activities, the days September 20, 22 and 24, with the National Colloquium "Efraín Huerta" to allow the students and the public to have the opportunity to assist to both forums, since the interest these journeys have risen is notable.

The programme

The II Cursed Journeys will begin on the 20th at the Ma. Elena Morales Auditorium of the Department of Languages with a dialogue table regarding the work from Edgar Allan Poe, where professors from the department of Letters, Philosophy and History. Later, in the same auditorium, the block of conferences "Horror in the Mexican way" will be about two writers: Guadalupe Dueñas and Inés Arredondo. Plus, a specialized panel on the writer Amparo Dávila. The first journey closes with the exhibition of the "Re-animator," a cult movie of the Director Brian Yuzna, in the A/V Room of the Museum of the Mummies.

Among the activities of this first day, it is particularly interesting the fact that the Cursed Journeys and the 4th National Encounter of Literary Creation and Edition "Efrén Hernández" will gather, because there will be an evening destined to the reading of texts of the own students with the horror theme, and will include a conversation with the guest writer Luis G. Abbadie.

On Thursday 22, the Master conference "The haunting fear: 'The fall of the Usher house' of Edgar Allan Poe," given by Víctor Hugo Vázquez Rentería (UV); in addition of a conversation with Alejandro Montes Santamaría (UG), director of the International Horror Film Festival "Aurora," on the use of social media in literary creation. The journey closes with a piano recital with Sergio Rodrigo Valadés, at the Gallery Maz-Ahua (Casa Cuatro), downtown.

On Saturday 24, Antonio Alcalá González (ITESM Mexico City), founder of the International Gothic Congress at UNAM, will give the Master conference "Dagon and Cthulhu: fears of degeneration in the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft." By the afternoon will be projected a pair of movies: Two Evil Eyes (1990) and The Whisperer in Darkness (2011); and for the closure of these Cursed Journeys are two scenic pieces reserved: the mini-play in one act "Dementia" and the performance "Cocktail of the Jonadarks" in The Flood of 1905.
