Guanajuato, Gto., September 21, 2016. The University of Guanajuato (UG), which occupies the fourth national place in patent entry, signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), which will allow to strengthen the collaboration and joint work.

During the signing, the Head of IMPI's Regional Office-Bajio, Lic. Alejandro Raúl Salas Domínguez, revealed that UG currently has 30 registered brands, and four more through Patronage, numbers that are a sample of the interest of the House of Studies in the subject.

In 2015 –informed—UG had six patents, which placed it in the fourth national place, and in the seventh regarding application submissions to IMPI. Hence, he thanked the availability to work in a coordinated fashion to promote between society the importance of protecting the industrial property.

The General Rector of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, said that the institution has a great academic capacity and a strong commitment to work in projects that answer social problems, but it is important to protect the innovative ideas that emerge from the work of students and professors.

Likewise, he cleared that besides promoting the culture of intellectual property between the university community, it is important to promote it through courses and workshops, seminars and conferences open to the public.

On the matter, the Attorney General of the House of Studies, M.A. Mauricio Alejandro Murillo de la Rosa, explained that the agreement with IMPI establishes that there will be advisory to students, professors, researchers, as well as business people, incubated and independent inventors from UG.

Also, in a joint way, they will organize academic activities together, with the purpose to reveal the instruments of support in matter of registry and protection of the industrial property, and will orient on the adequate use of services of technological information provided by IMPI.

In addition, UG will support IMPI in fighting piracy, and the Institute will make a discount in the corresponding fees to the presentation and documentation of the patent applications, utility model and industrial designs coming from research centers, independent inventors and micro and small businesses.

At the agreement signing were also present the Director of Liaison of UG, Dr. Salvador Hernández Castro; the Coordinator of the University Center of Liaison with the Environment, Lic. Ma. Teresa González Téllez.
