
León, Gto., September 29, 2016.- With the intention to create a space for dialogue between youth and experts in the areas of Social Sciences and Health Sciences, students of the educational program of Social Work at the University of Guanajuato Campus Leon, organized the panel "Teen pregnancy in Guanajuato."
The aperture of the space was in charge of Lic. Lorena Vargas, coordinator of educational programs of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, who remarked the importance of generating this kind of dynamics. The panel was integrated by Dr. Aurora Zavala Caudillo, Dr. Luis Felipe García y Barragán; Lic. Irma Concepción Flores Buenrostro, and as representative of the college students and moderator, Maythé Ochoa Juárez.
The uneasiness of Maythe Ochoa Juárez, who studies the degree in Social Work, besides being the spokesperson of "Redefine Leon," and Jessica Guadalupe Gaytán Benítez, also student of the same degree, derived in the realization of the first panel, precisely a day after commemorating the national day of teen pregnancy prevention. On the matter, Maythé referred: "We do it because we believe that it is a problem that needs to be seen and we invited three experts and each one of them gave us the opinion on teen pregnancy in the state."
The session consisted in three rounds with questions for each one of the representatives in which they knew the perspective regarding the problematic of the increase in unwanted teen pregnancy. It is worth mentioning that the diversity in the specialties of each expert helped to analyze the subject from different angles and plan a multidisciplinary approach.
Psychology had its representative, Dr. Luis Felipe Garcia, while Dr. Zavala Vaudillo contributed with her knowledge in Anthropology and Social Work. Lic. Irma Flores, who is also a militant feminist, represents the civil association "Redefine México," presented a dossier titled "Analysis of the design of public policies, programs and actions for the prevention of the teenage work," a joint effort between Redefine Leon and the Leadership Institute Simone de Beauvoir A.C.
Such text analyzes the efforts made by health institutions, the government of Guanajuato and other involved instances in the prevention of unwanted pregnancy. This dossier is a useful tool to know the actual panorama in our entity and help improve the design of campaigns directed for the youth with the purpose to revert the trend which is larger among teens with unwanted pregnancy.
After listening the contributions from each specialist, there was a Q&A session to start the dialogue between the audience and the speakers and solve doubts or simply express their opinion. The organizing committee delivered each panelist a recognition of his valuable participation in this forum.
