León, Gto., September 28, 2016.- Within activities of the XXVI National Congress of Anatomy "Dr. Alberto Aranda de la Parra" held in the city of Leon, the Department of Medicine and Nutrition of the University of Guanajuato received the replica of the book "Humani Corporis Fabrica," considered the most important book in the history of medicine.

The work, written by Andrés Vesalio in 1543, is composed by nearly 700 pages and is considered one of the most influential scientific books in all the time.

It is important to mention that this work has been delivered to 40'0 universities of Mexico and Latin America and this time, it was the turn of the University of Guanajuato.

The responsible to receive the replica from the hands of Dr. José Antonio Carrasco Rojas, ex-president of the National Academy of Surgery A.C. and outstanding gastro-surgeon were Dr. Tonatiuh García Campos, Director of the Div. of Health Sciences and Dr. Francisco Ernesto González Bravo, Director of the Dept. of Medicine and Nutrition of Campus Leon.

During the protocol ceremony, were present Dr. Moisés Andrade Quezada, Sub-secretary of Health of the state of Guanajuato representing Dr. Francisco Ignacio Ortiz Aldana, Secretary of Health of the state; Dr. William Humberto Ortiz Briseño, President of the Mexican Society of Anatomy and Dr. Antonio Soto Paulino, Vice President of the Mexican Society of Anatomy.

Dr. Andrade Quezada commented that in the state they work hard in the growth of health care and emphasized that the Secretary of Health, the University of Guanajuato and the Dept. of Medicine and Nutrition must walk through the same trend as collaborators.

On his part, Dr. Tonatiuh García Campos explained in his intervention that for the University of Guanajuato is an honor to have such academic events of great name in the formation of human resources in health, likewise, asserted that the University seeks the active link among the institutions such as the Mexican Society of Anatomy. He reminded Dr. Alberto Aranda de la Parra, the name that this edition of the congress has, as the first professor of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. William Ortiz Briseño, President of the Mexican Association of Anatomy, commented that "the current medicine demands us new challenges, which makes us focus not only in teaching, but in the present challenges of society."

He remarked that the conferences, workshops and academic sessions will have as priority to contribute the process of teaching learning and reiterated that the Congress is aimed for the professors and students of medicine to whom he assured will find a space for reflection, exchange of knowledge, experiences and innovation, not only from educational models but also from the profiles of the teacher and student.

The participation of the student Gabriel Santos Vázquez was outstanding. He is a student of the educational program of Medical Surgeon, who was a semifinalist in the IX National Student Contest of Morphology in the category of Anatomy.

During activities of the congress participated students and professors from the states of San Luis Potosí, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Chiapas, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Puebla as well as the UNAM and the University of Guanajuato.
