From October 3 to 7, in the city of Leon, occurs the LIX National Congress of Physics, event that allows to tighten the collaboration among the scientists of the country; and, this edition includes activities to encourage the incorporation of the graduates to the industry, and widen the impact of this discipline in Mexico.
Simultaneously, in the venue Forum of Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG), is being held the XXXI National Encounter of Scientific Divulgation, where conferences with topics such as "Prehispanic sounds," "Magic and Mathematics" and "How many watch us?" will be presented.
Organized by the Mexican Society of Physics, 29 workshop groups participate, and open talks will be given to the public, as well as theater plays and short courses for teachers. These activities are expected to have the participation of nearly 3,000 children and youth, thanks to the support of the Dept. of Education in Guanajuato (SEG).
Within these events, the Mexican Society of Physics recognized the outstanding trajectory of Dr. Rocío Jáuregui, from the Institute of Physics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), with the award to Scientific Research.
In the opening ceremony, UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, highlighted the role of Physics in the positioning of the universities and considered that one the largest challenges is to democratize the knowledge and achieve a better approach among the scientific community and the governments.
"Sometimes –he pointed out—society doesn't have idea of the transcendence of what happens in the classrooms and laboratories, of what is published in the papers," so we have the huge commitment to communicate it and socialize it so it would have a greater impact.
He added that the Physicists have a large capability to synthetize the problems and solve them, so he concluded that "societies have a lot to learn from the physicists, and I am sure that the physicists have a lot to learn for the development of our societies."
In her message, the President of the Mexican Society of Physics, Dr. Estela Susana Lizano Soberón said that the National Congress of Physics is one of the scientific encounters with the most tradition in Mexico, where in it participate professors, researchers, and students. The objective is to present progress of the research and teaching of physics, in an ambience of open and respectful discussion.
She informed that in Poliforum Leon there will be 23 simultaneous sessions, four mural sessions, 13 plenary sessions and 200 posters. In total, there will be 1,109 works, and 400,000 scientists will gather, coming from 35 universities of Mexico, Latin America and United States.
For the first time, there will be a round-table with the participation of physicists with business activity, and representatives of the private and governmental sector. The intention is to discuss achievements and lines of action that allow to encourage the academy-business link.
There will also be a workshop for graduate students taught by the Institute of Physics from the UK, whose purpose is to provide tools to the students to lead their professional work towards industry and the formation of new companies.
Dr. Lizano Soberón reminded that this event matches the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Institute of Physics of the University of Guanjauato, "one of the most outstanding groups of Physics in the country," she affirmed.
The Secretary of Innovation, Science and Higher Education, Dr. Arturo Lara López, representing the state governor, lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, expressed his gratitude to the participants for being members of a community that has revolutionized education. The research works they develop –he said—translates into social good.
On his part, the municipal president of Leon, Lic. Héctor López Santillana, was convinced that in the time that they awaken the scientific calling and develop the talent of scientists, it will be at the service of society and will provoke the transformation of the environment.
