Guanajuato, Gto. October 3, 2016.- With a "Welcome to the home of M.A. Luis Palacios Hernández," Dr. Andreas Kurz, Director of the Dept. of Spanish Letters of the Div. of Social Sciences and Humanities, Campus Guanajuato, opened the emotional homage given to the academic, the colleague, the cultural promoter, the friend and the professor of numerous generations of students, former of a large number of masters in literature, before a crowded auditorium.

From the "intimacy of affection and friendship," as said at the time by Dr. Lilia Solórzano, words of recognition paraded the academic who served for 46 years to the University of Guanajuato (UG), and who was director of the called Faculty of Philosophy and Letters in several periods, since 1979 until 2008, when the new structure that organizes UG in departments, divisions and campus was implemented.

To homage his trajectory, there were two tables on the particular areas of interest for M.A. Palacios: cinema and semiotics. M.A. Carlos Ulises Mata and Dr. Rogelio Castro Rocha, disserted on the relation "cinema and literature," at the same time recalled the paths of a friendship that began in the classrooms at "Valenciana," being students of M.A. Palacios.

On his part, M.A. Rolando Álvarez Barrón and Dr. Elba Margarita Sánchez Rolón, also students of M.A. Palacios at the time, began a conversation on the development of the semiotic studies in the degree of Letters, in the largest part by the enthusiasm of M.A. Palacios, who "contributed to build an epistemology to understand literature and an own pedagogy."

Dr. Eugenio Mancera Rodríguez and Dr. Lilia Solórzano Esqueda read one each laudatory texts for the friend and colleague. Remembered, at the same time, how their biography is united to the biography of the degree of Letters and dozens of people who have gone through the halls of "Valenciana." Each one thanked the homage person for the influence and legacy: "people also live for their facts, for their perspectives that open in life, for the enthusiasm they work with [...] Thank you, Luis, for allowing us to live in the ambience of the literary imagination that is the ambience of freedom," said Dr. Mancera.

In the homage also intervened Dr. Javier Corona Fernández, scholar at the Dept. of Philosophy, Dr. Aureliano Ortega Esquivel, Director of the Div. of Social Sciences and Humanities, Campus Guanajuato, and Dr. Luis Fernando Macías, Director of the Div. of Social Sciences and Humanities, who recognized the labor of M.A. Palacios in the re-structuration of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters parting from the Forum of Transformation and Academic Development carried out on 1985; and celebrated the determination and leadership of M.A. Palacios for the evolution, survival and solidity of humanities at UG. Hence, the name is attached to Luis Rius, Ernesto Scheffler, Margarita Villaseñor, Alfredo Pérez Bolde, Luis Rionda, among other great college humanitarians.

M.A. Luis Palacios Hernández thanked the recognition and corresponded the displayed affection by all the attendants: professors, colleagues, students and ex-students, family and friends. He remembered the avatars of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at UG since its foundation in 1952 (the second to be created nationally, right after UNAM) and the collective efforts made to maintain the project humanistic from an academic community for over 60 years. Finally, he gave testimony of his calling as a teacher by saying that his greatest legacy is in the students. "My books have tiny legs and they're all over the world: they're my students."
