León, Gto., Ocotber 12, 2016.- The Department of Medical Science of the University of Guanajuato Campus León, makes research regarding mental disorders studied from neuroscience with different focuses: molecular, biochemical, cognitive, psychological and encephalographic. The research is coordinated by Dr. Martha Silvia Solís Ortíz, professor-researcher at UG, who makes studies on the relevance of anxiety.

The scholar commented that our country has an 11.9% of anxiety cases and remarked that in Mexico City is where the most percent is.

She spoke about the exponential growth that mental disorders have presented in the last years, compared with a difference of 5% or 6% in illnesses such as diabetes, obesity and cancer.

She also emphasized in that young people develops anxiety due to drugs, unemployment, school desertion, low income and work competence; coupled with a population growth that has an impact of mental health. She suggested that to mitigate the effects of anxiety, it is necessary to have a wide circle of friends, varied nourishment in quantity and quality, constant physical activation and intermediate rest during work hours.

For Dr. Solis, it is vital that the State destines resources to establish public policies to intervene in anxiety since it is an area that is forgotten.

With this type of research, Dr. Solís coordinated the Mental Health Symposium 2016. "The neuroscience of the mental disorder," which was held in the Jorge Ibargüengoitia Auditorium in the venue Forum of Campus León, where conferences and posters related with the study of anxiety and depression were presented.

During the event, there was the attendance of Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector of Campus León, who was responsible to inaugurate the Symposium, as well as guest speakers such as Dr. Araceli Sanz Martín, Researcher of the Institute of Neuroscience of the University of Guadalajara; Dr. Fernando García, Psychiatry Medic of the Psychiatric Hospital of León and M.A. Lisette Morado Crespo, of the Department of Medical Science.

Also present were students of Psychology and Social Work of the University of Guanajuato, UNITEC, Universidad de León (UDL), Universidad EPCA and Universidad Autónoma de Durango, unit Leon.
