Guanajuato, Gto., October 14, 2016.- From October 17 to 23, the Choir of the University of Guanajuato (UG) will travel along with their director, José Francisco Martínez, to the X Festival Corearte Barcelona 2016, where they will represent the country with a wide repertoire.

The festival gathers choirs from several parts of the world, such as Chile, Greece and Russia. The invited groups have the opportunity to present in well-known places such as Monserrat's Monastery and participate with the direction of international masters.

The director José Francisco Martínez commented that the university aggrupation will have three individual presentations and presentation for the final concert with the rest of the choirs. The repertoire, he said, will be varied and retakes the Spanish and Renaissance music, with pieces that were recently presented in the 44th FIC, regarding the musical influence of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

In addition, he added, the programme considers sacred music, from the viceroyalty to contemporary authors. In this sense, it will be an opportunity to give a sample of Mexican music of several genres, for example, the choir arrangements of pieces such as "Tierra de mis amores", "La Llorona" and "Canción mixteca", which, he assured, represent well the choir, and the university and the country.

This isn't the first time that the director takes the choir outside the country. In 2013, they had the opportunity to present in the XIII Song od Advent and Christmas in Budapest, Hungary.

On the other hand, José Francisco Martínez said that the University Choir is living a good work moment, hence, this experience will be a challenge and an opportunity to enrich as musicians and as a group, as well as showing that they work to maintain a good level.

José Francisco Martínez Rodríguez has made composition studies, Gregorian chants, Choir, piano and organ direction, as well as Spanish music for organ with the North American master Donal Joyce, receiving advise from remarked masters such as Kimberly Marshall.

In 2007, the took the baton of UG's Choir. Since then, the repertoire has incurred with authors such as J.S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, G. F. Haendel, W.A. Mozart, F. Schubert, G. Bizet and g. Verdi, Juan del Encina, Antonio Ribera, Garci Sánchez de Badajoz and Antonio Cebrián.
