Salamanca, Gto. October 14, 2016.- For their interest in the field of optics, photonics and applications of light in science, student groups of the University of Guanajuato makes the Optics and Photonics Applied Congress (OPA).

In the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, the chapters of the Optics Society of America (OSA) and the International Society of Optics and Photonics (SPIE) organized during October 13 and 14 a series of conferences with national researchers.

Dr. Oleksiy Shulika, adviser of the SPIE Chapter of the University of Guanajuato, commented that this student event occurs annually with the objective to divulge the sciences of general engineering and particularly in areas of optics and photonics applied.

The conferences were presented by: Dr. Bernardo Mendoza Santoyo, from the "Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica A.C."; Doctors Jesús Carlos Pedraza Ortega & Juan Manuel Ramos Arreguín of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro; Dr. Mauricio Ortíz Gutiérrez & la Dra. Mary Carmen Peña Gomar of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo; Dr. Jorge Ojeda Castañeda, level III researcher of the University of Guanajuato & Dr. José Javier Sánchez Mondragón, of the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica.

By participating in this opening ceremony, the Director of Support for Research and Postgraduate, Dr. Mauro Napsuciale Mendivil, highlighted that the congress' topics are of great relevance for the technological development of the country and it is specially stimulating that it is organized by the students that are part of the academic tradition of the Division of Engineering and follow the vision of the scientific societies.

"Our country requires of an accelerated process of technological development in all areas and optics is a discipline that historically has given place to endless applications, beginning with optic geometry for some centuries, but unveiling all their potential with the regime of optic physics", described the director.

Before the opening declaration, the Rector of Campus Irapuato Salamanca, Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, recognized the student Carlos Reséndiz Solís, representative of the chapter of the OSA for promoting the field of research in these areas considered as the science of the future and show some students of the campus the innovations and a wider panorama of their discipline.

The congress also manifests the entrepreneur spirit of the students, such as the transversal competencies that all universities must cultivate, as show in the SPIE's chapter of the University of Guanajuato, formed in July 2007, for some students of the then Faculty of Mechanical Engineering supported by researchers, that today are advisors in the Academic body of Optoelectronics in the Division of Engineering.
