
Guanajuato, Gto., October 23, 2016.- An encounter of a diversity of talents gave place to the greatest world celebration to honor the writer, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, where, the University of Guanajuato (UG) joined to the participation of more than 500 artists, 14 university venues and 92 events, during the XLIV Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC).
UG's General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, said that in every act there is a unity of inspiration, and for the FIC, there is the work of a humanitarian, the work of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.
Likewise, welcomed who became part of the Forty-fifth edition of the FIC, which will have the "Revolutions" as a theme, with emphasis on the Russian Revolution and 100 years of the Mexican Revolutionary Constitution of 1917.
On his part, FIC's Director, Dr. Jorge Volpi, said that this year has been particularly special, since it had the greatest celebration to honor Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. He assured that along three weeks, Guanajuato became the Cervantine capital of the world, with an audience of 380,000 people in the Festival's events.
He announced the special guests for the next Festival which will be France and the State of Mexico, which he precise as a country of great cultural tradition and a state with a unique cultural variety and richness. He also anticipated for the next edition, the premier in Mexico of the opera of Victor Rasgado "Anacleto Morones."
In his intervention, representing the Ambassador of France in Mexico, Her Excellence, Maryse Bossière, the Ministry Councilor, François Vandeville, highlighted that next year's participation will be an opportunity to gather the talent of artists from all the world, all that in a city, a state and a University filled with charm, beauty and cultural richness.
The Secretary of Culture of the State of Mexico, Dr. Eduardo Gasca Pliego, thanked the hospitality of the University of Guanajuato and sustained that this time means an opportunity to reveal the legacy of traditions and cultural manifestations the state has.
Representing the governor of Guanajuato, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, the General Director of the Institute of Culture, Dr. Juan Alcocer Flores thanked all who participated in the XLIV FIC and highlighted that in this edition, 1,082 artists of Guanajuato showed their talent to the world and there was more than a half million visitors that crowded the shows from this cultural festival.
The closing conference of the XLIV FIC were present: The Municipal President of Guanajuato, Lic. Edgar Castro Cerrillo; representing the Secretary of Tourism, Lic. Fernando Olivera Rocha, Sub-secretary of Touristic Promotion, Lic. Octavio Humberto Aguilar Mata; and the Coordinator of Social Communication from the State Government, Lic. Enrique Avilés Pérez.
