Guanajuato, Gto., November 4, 2016. As part of the actions the University of Guanajuato (UG) has taken to influence in the construction of a more respectful culture of the human rights, the institution participated in the National Congress Necessary Factor for Equality in Guanajuato, where M.A. Abraham Serrato Guzmán, Coordinator of the Program UGénero, participated in a workshop about the "Analysis of the work of re-education from the academic sector."

The event was organized by the National Institute of Women (Inmujeres), the institute for Women of Guanajuato (IMUG), and the Association Gender and Development, GENDES, A.C. The event has the objective to share experiences and thoughts on public institutions, organization of civil society and academy, on the work of re-education with men who generate violence, to strengthen the strategies of intervention, research and congregated models.

M.A. Serrato Guzmán, professor and coordinator of the Institutional Program of Gender Equality of the University of Guanajuato, explained the importance of addressing the phenomenon of gender violence comprehensively, not only addressing the victims, but also who generate it, to contribute in a wider social change.

In her participation, in the workshop "Analysis of the work of re-education from the academic sector", shared with college students a reflection on how the studies of gender, and particularly the male studies, have contributed theoretical elements that in great measure sustain the methodologies used for the work of re-education with men.

He emphasized that the strategies encourage gender equality, human rights and no discrimination, they must include men and women, as active agents of change, so they can influence in the transformation of the ways to relate in the academic, familiar and academic space.

He commented that this is the perspective from the Institutional Program of Gender Equality (UGénero) of the University of Guanajuato, and has encouraged –inviting all the university community, students, administrators, academics and directors—women and men to actively participate in the construction of a culture of equality.

In this sense, a large summon is being created in the University to participate in the commemoration campaign for the World's Day of Eradication of Violence against women, next November 25th.

In addition, the House of Studies is undertaking a process of formation for high directors, where general rectory, campuses rectories and direction of the high school college participate. One for medium directors of the general rectory; and one more for the operative personnel of the Direction of Students Development of all campus and high schools.

Parting from these formation processes seeks to influence in the mainstreaming of the perspective of gender in the institutional policies, as well as to promote and address comprehensively, the cases of gender violence that may occur.
