la-sociedad-gana-la-humanidad-gana-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto. November 9, 2016.- During the master conference "A policy with Challenges by Gender Reasons", given by Lic. Amalia Dolores García Medina at the University of Guanajuato, talked about topics related with Human Rights, as well as the history of women in politics and their social transcendence.

As part of her reflections, the writer spoke about Marcela Lagarde and her book "Los cautiverios de las mujeres: madresposas, monjas, putas, presas y locas", where the role of the woman is to live in captivity, call it convent, asylum, jail or their own home; the latter for lack of spaces of affection, love and human development.

She emphasized the last aspect, since for Amelia Garcia Medina, the woman is socially committed to care for people and their loved ones, and many times this prevents her to develop in other areas.

She assures that one of the right of the people, is to be taken care of, but this responsibility relies on the woman and considered that the government should assume this commitment by opening more full-time schools, daycares, other institutions that commit to take care of people.

A clear example is Mexico City, which has the largest number of daycares in the country; only fill the 51% of the capacity, so the other 48% of children are being taken care of by other people, recurrently on the mother, grandmothers, sisters and a small percentage in the parents.

For Lic. Amalia García being in a political role implied social and thinking change from the family ambience, she assured that since she was little, her father didn't allow her to learn how to cook –which today may be a social transgression—in addition to influence in her and her sisters, reading. Also, due to her father's work, which required to travel to different places and deal with diverse cultures, they learned to respect social diversity.

She added that they have progresses a lot in the topic of equity and protection of women, since in early years, the topic of intrafamily violence was not seen as a crime, and violations were a misdemeanor, since a thief had a greater sentence than a rapist. She warned that there still a lot to do, in political topics with the gender fees, as well as social equity.

"I always speak about women in plural, because I believe that the responsibility where we have taken part of in diverse spaces, being in places of decision, is to massively incorporate women, which their inclusion is very important in politics, but it is required to generate public policies, budgets, and transform the predominant culture that considers that the public space is not for the women", assured the ex-Governor of Zacatecas.

She pointed out that giving this kind of conferences at UG, is very important since it allows to speak about Human Rights with a perspective of gender and this is necessary to precise what we are talking about, and how the youth can boost this topic.

"Participate actively, read and prepare, don't stop for nothing", was the message which Amalia García Medina finished with.

Lic. Amalia García Medina was a militant of the Mexican Communist Party, was a representative of the same party before the Committee of the Family of Inmates, Persecuted and Political disappears. In the political ambiance, she has performed as Plurinominal Federal Deputy, then, she was a legislator in the Federal District, Senator and Governor of Zacatecas.
