Guanajuato, Gto., November 9, 2016.- As part of the homage from the University of Guanajuato (UG) to recently deceased writer, critic and ex Coordinator of the Movie Club, Jorge Rogelio Pantoja Merino, there was an award ceremony of the Prize of Movie Critic in his honor.
The prize seeks to motivate and give the proper value to such work as an extension of the very own cinematographic language, as well as to promote the comprehensive development of the high school and college students at UG.
Ricardo Gutierrez Castañeda, Philosophy student, was the winner of the first place with the text "Transfiguration of the memory," received and incentive of $6,000 MXN and his work will be published in the institutional media of the University.
In addition, there was an honorific mention and acknowledgements to Juana Macaria España García, Visual Arts student, for the text "Stars on Earth" and to Daniel Alejandro López Pérez, also VA student, for his work "Time to fight inertia."
They also received a pack of books which includes titles from M.A. Pantoja Merino and others from the university editorial.
Pro Vost, Dr. Héctor Efraín Rodríguez de la Rosa, representing the General Rector, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, remembered Jorge Pantoja Merino as the figure that gave the Movie Club the profile that currently has, through national and international agreements that allowed the public to know art movies that in another way couldn't been known in the capital.
Likewise, the Director of Cultural Extension, Dr. Sara Julsrud López, assured that this award ceremony honors the illustrious members that have left a footprint not only in the university community but in the state and national level, to see the cinema as a mean to know "the memory of identity."
On her part, Dr. Liliana García Rodríguez, representative of the jury, called the students with a critic calling to be serious in their role as spectators and make visible "the intimate life that unveils when we are in front of the screen."
To the event also attended, the Director of Communication and Liaison, M.A. Margarita Arenas Guzmán; M.A. Ana Luz Zamudio, representing the Director of Student Development, M.A. Osvaldo Chávez; as well as the jury of the contest, which was composed by José Antonio Valdés Peña, Chief of Information at the National Movie Archive, David Valdés de la Gamba, writer and movie critic and M.A. Alan Quesada Figueroa.
The writer and promoter and cultural negotiator, cultural functionary, TV host, radio speaker, and an acute and amusing talker, Jorge Rogelio Pantoja Merino, passed away last April 21st. Besides being Coordinator of the Movie Club at the University of Guanajuato, was coordinator of Radio UG, where they transmitted his programs "The music in the movies" and "The cinema in the Mexican Revolution."
His time through Channel 11 of IPN at Mexico City was branded by a splendid and unrepeatable work as movie director and programming. He was also known for his contributions to the International Cervantine Festival (FIC) and the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF).
