
Guanajuato, Gto. November 17, 2016.- With great success was held the concert of the tenth anniversary of the Orchestra Project of High School Guanajuato, with the participation of 150 members, among students, graduates and professors of the University of Guanajuato.
This project has become an important space of expression for the youth that find in music, a way to channel their uneasiness, expectations and a space to develop what accompanies them for life.
In an interview, the Director and Coordinator of this project, M.A. Pedro Benito Toledo said that this initiative was designed as an educational project, and not only artistic since it develops competencies, such as discipline, teamwork, self-discovery, socialization, continuous study, and institutional belonging, that strengthens the youth's comprehensive development.
During the anniversary concert, the public was pleased with traditional Mexican music with interpretations as "Cielito Lindo", "Carmela", "La Marcha de Zacatecas", such as interpretations that for times made the public travel to the past with songs like the Yaqui Dance, "Los Xtoles", "Danza de la Lluvia huicholes", "Canción de la Lluvia" and "Danza de los Tepecuanes" with rhythms that ensemble the sound of the drum and the heart.
They also played classical music such as Ode to Joy, Carmina Burana and Rachmaninoff; in addition, they played contemporary music with songs from Queen, an interpretation of the song from Batman, and to finalize, the cumbia "Alas a Malala" which caused joy in the spectator.
At the end of the concert, the General Rector of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino congratulated the orchestra and the director, handing an award to M.A. Toledo for his full disposition to share his knowledge, artistic sensibility and vast 10-year experience.
The beginnings of the project go back to 2006 by initiative a high schooler, since then, M.A. Toledo was invited to coordinate this project. Later, with institutional support, a breath band was put together, composed by 13 students; currently the aggrupation covers more than 10% of the student population at HS Guanajuato.
This project has diverse groups in different musical genders such as: The Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of HS Guanajuato, the Symphony Orchestra Manuel M. Ponce of HS Guanajuato which is composed by young and children who are beginning their musical formation; the Rock Workshop and the recently created Percussion Ensemble of HS Guanajuato.
As time goes by, they have promoted the interinstitutional liaison through the organization of regional and university encounters of orchestras and youth & children choirs; where students and professors from different schools and divisions from UG have participated, as well as related institutions from different states of the republic.
