exposicion-naturaleza-fractal-dcne-universidad-guanajuato-ug-ugto

Guanajuato, Gto., November 23, 2016.- Insects, minerals, plants and chemical and synthetic materials are the models from which the students of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE) of the University of Guanajuato (UG) use to confirm that nature is fractal and has patterns.

It is about the expo "Fractal Nature", curated by the same students and the DCNE professor, Dr. Armando Obregón Herrera, that gathers the best photos taken in the Microscopy and Microphotography course.

Through techniques such as Clear field, Dark field, Phase contrast, Polarization and Fluorescence, the students find a visual language to present a more sensitive experience about their work in the laboratories, allowing the spectator to amaze by the forms created by a scorpion's tail, a dandelion's stem or a pond insect.

We know that a fractal (from the word fractus that means broken of fractured) is a geometrical object with two key characteristics: self-similar and follow a recursive pattern, meaning, that it is an object made from smaller copies of the same figure, by infinity.

So, fractals are related with the Fibonacci number and are present everywhere in nature, from tree's branches to waterfalls.

This topic has been recurrent in exact sciences, as well as in arts, where musicians, artists and writers haven used this view, as the DCNE's students, to understand the way nature manifests and behaves.

Dr. Armando Obregón Herrera assured that the objective is to communicate the differences of forms, colors and fields in every day's world, but above all, sensitize on how, even with all the different fragments, coexist in harmony in nature.

The students who participate in this expo are: Estéfano Buenfil, Gabriela Franco, Christian Villalpando, Lorena Santarosa, Sergio González, Fernanda Esquivel, Celina Rodríguez, Isabel Carrillo, Claudia Carranza, Marco Vega, Sandra Coronado, Oscar Medrano, Cecilia Vela, Andrea Santiago, Jesús Amezola, Claudia Guerrero, Paulo Mora, Vianey Alba, Jesús Calderas.

After the presentation in the drawing board room at DCNE, the expo will move to different spaces of the city and the state, such as Salamanca, León and San Francisco del Rincón, among others, where they'll continue with their objective to divulge science.
