Guanajuato, Gto., November 25, 2016.- "Are there elements of Aristotle in the Nicomachean ethic to base today a flexible, lay ethic and lead us to happiness?" was the conferences that Dr. María Teresa Sánchez Mier dictated in the Cultural Center Ignacio Ramírez "El Nigromante" at the city of San Miguel de Allende.

As part of the cycle of talks made by the Extension Unit of the University of Guanajuato (UG) in the mentioned city, in coordination with the Department of Philosophy at UG.

Dr. María Teresa Sánchez Mier exposed the validity and importance in the contemporary reflection of the Aristotelian texts on moral and ethics; specifically, from Ethic to Nicomachus (son of Aristotle) who is considered the most mature and consistent of the Aristotelian texts, because it presents a treaty about the human bloom, of how to try and reach happiness through the virtue, besides trying to develop a theoretical framework to describe the practice of a virtuous life.

Dr. Sánchez Mier shared with the attendants the Aristotle's reflections on one of the largest human aspirations: happiness. For the Greek philosopher, --he said—"happiness is the activity of the soul based on the virtue", and when happiness is authentic, it is self-sufficient, it means, it doesn't depend of nothing and no one; it is desired more than anything else; includes yes at the beginning and at the end, because it leads our actions.

She spoke about the validity of the ethical thinking of the Greek philosopher to construct the collective wellbeing that living in society demands, because happiness is something personal, in the case of Aristotle, this "cannot be reached alone, but in society, because you always need the rest to act virtuously. [...] One cannot know how patient or prudent you are if you live in a cave", she expressed.

These talks given by scholars of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus Guanajuato are made with the objective to take the philosophical reflection to external venues, to promote within the society and the understanding of the human through reasoning and dialogue.
