Guanajuato, Gto., November 28, 2016.- For the third year in a row, students of the degree in Touristic Resource Management, under the coordination of professor Irma Franco, organize a forum where they address the novelties and trends in the matter of tourism as part of their learning process. For this third edition (to be held in Nov 28, 29), the students chose as main topic a specific sector: the "Millennials generation" or "Generation Y".
M.A. Miguel Ángel Cervantes Flores, representing Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta, formally inaugurated the third edition of the forum, and in his participation, he exposed the importance this population sector has for the touristic area, since, currently, "almost 25% of the population of Mexico is part of this important commercial segment, with solid liaisons with the technological sector, a characteristic that without a doubt impacts on how to make tourism in the world."
He also expressed that Guanajuato, being a heritage city, host of the FIC, is one of the most important destinies in Mexico, hence, it requires trained personnel such as the one formed by the University of Guanajuato, to face the every-time-more-demanding society of touristic services.
Lic. Miriam Cecilia Adame Alcaraz, director of Information and Analysis of the Secretary of Tourism, representing M.A. Fernando Olivera Rocha, Secretary of Tourism of the State, congratulated the initiative from the organizers and the topic selection, since the Millennials "are a generation of consumers with new features and demands, that are branding the current trends in tourism. [...] Hence, it is important to learn everything we can from you. You set the bar today in tourism, because the needs are changing, and that must be understood", said to the attending youth.
M.A. Walter Daniel Cisneros Mújica, Coordinator of the degree in Touristic Resource Management, commented that the growth in the forum has been clear: "This forum has been growing. The first forum was too local; the second opened to the city, and today, there was the support of the Institute of Competitivity in a national level with their head M.A. Patricia Domínguez, who gave continuity to this program and places it as an important forum in the state."
At the opening ceremony were also present; as special guests, Lic. Salvador Alejandro Jaime Arroyo, Director of Municipal Tourism; M.A. Velino Esteves Jiménez, Academic Secretary at DCEA; Dr. Héctor Fabián Gutiérrez Rangel, Director of the Department of Business Management and Direction.
Tourism for a new generation
The so-called Millennials Generation defines who was born between 1981 & 1995, youth between 20 & 35 years, who became adults with the change of millennia and that show a large uneasiness to travel and know new places.
In addition, a characteristic that defines this collective is that they have full awareness of the globalization and the information technologies are an important part of their life style, so their way to travel is based in a large measure on what they can check on internet, besides being willing to discover different enclaves and live new travel experiences.
To understand and attend this generation, the Forum includes conferences and workshops on entrepreneurism, ecology, gastronomy, archeology, beer and wine tasting, event organization, etc. All the activities are open to students from all degrees, with no cost.
