Salvatierra, Gto., November 29, 2016.- With dedication to support youth to fight their addiction problems, is how Dr. Rafael Veloz García acts. He is a full-time professor, ascribed to the Department of Agro-industrial Engineering, at the Division of Health Sciences and Engineering at Campus Celaya-Salvatierra and belongs to the academic body of Biotechnology, Sustainability and Engineering.
Approximately a semester ago by the afternoon after their work at the university, he dedicated to support youth to fight the problems of addiction and explained that "a while ago I realized that in Salvatierra there was an annex, to where youth between the ages of 14 and 25 go to; it is worrying to know that our youth is in these circumstances."
Prof. Veloz García's task was to visit them with an elaborate program with topics where he covers reading, mathematics, philosophy and art and mentioned that "the youth needs different things to think about, since in the neuronal level there's an increase of the receivers that cause the need to consume narcotics or alcohol and a way to supplant their need is to maintain them busy during their recovery process."
Dr. Veloz delved that "I do it as part of a social service, to give it a name, they are part of the social weave, they're in a bad streak, but they can rise their self-esteem and recover their normal life."
"There is a case where one of the youth has recovered, retook high school and is about to graduate, now he returns to the annex, but to talk", commented Prof. Veloz happy. "As professionals, as universitarians we are obliged to retribute to society something and this is my little grain of sand", he commented.
Among the youth that has decided to approach him, already sum up to 40 young people, of which he has become a tutor, they even ask him for advice on how to continue studying and he adds "there is no better satisfaction than seeing the youth recover and ask me to come back."
"Seeing their suffering, their pain, makes me reflect that communication in families must be reinforces, since many of them are in bad steps due to lack of attention", he concluded.
