León, Gto., December 5, 2016.- With the purpose to sensitize and encourage empathy towards people with a disability, the Division of Health Sciences of Campus Leon of the University of Guanajuato (UG), has prepared a series of activities within the International Day of Disabled people, which is commemorated on December 3.
The activities promoted by the University, reflect the institutional commitment with the social improvement of a humane focus, but not only will they address the relative theoretical part to medicine, but also, they seek to make awareness on the axes of respect, inclusion and dignity of that social sector.
Tuesday December 6, parting from 09:00hrs at the building of the Division of Health Sciences of the venue San Carlos they will dictate two conferences presented by Reyes López de la Cruz, outstanding Salvaterran with a spinal cord injury that has managed to integrate normally to normal and work life in the System of the Comprehensive Development of the Family (DIF) in Salvatierra, and who has been a finalist in the State Award of Youth. He will talk about his achievements, experiences and work as a promoter of the program inclusion to life.
In another space, the professor Adriana Alvarado García, scholar from UG, will give a talk aimed for the students of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation where they will show progress and techniques of physiotherapy for the treatment of patients.
In an interview, Dr. Beatriz Verónica González Sandoval, Coordinator of the degree in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, commented about the objective of these activities: "That all students, mainly from the Division of Health Sciences, approach to sensitize them in the subject of disability and how each discipline can intervene and provide a quality attention to this vulnerable population."
She added that there are obsolete terms such as "disabled" or "invalid" and invited the community to opt for "people with a disability", according the General Law of Inclusion. Also, highlighted that they work in the formation of integral professionals, with the highest standards of technical and humane quality that make the difference in matter of rehabilitation and prevention of the physical wellbeing in health institutions.
The students of the program of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation could sum to the activities by making posters related to their degree and treating people with a disability, as well as the social ambiance and its implications to whom suffers any type of disability.
